Exclamation New Sage User & Colossus Stutter..

Hi Folks!

I usually use Media Center but it's starting to annoy me so I thought I would try out SageTV. To that end I installed it tonight (pretty darn easy) but found that both live TV and recorded TV are jerky/stuttery. Not quite so bad as freezing but the video is not fluid.

I'm using a Hauppaugge Colossus capture card and I tried changing the recording settings in Sage (both the highest quality and the stock setting) thinking maybe I would see a difference (better or worse) but it looked the same.

Any ideas on why the video would be 'jerky' and not as smooth as it should be? In Media Center the video is fluid.

There seem to be a lot of knowledgeable sage/colossus folks here

I just installed SageTV tonight (I'm a total newby/first install) with my existing Colossus card. I'm using component/optical input from a Motorola DCX-3400. I'm using the latest Hauppauge driver.

I noticed something interesting and I'm hoping someone can shed some light on it...

If I watch live TV the picture is pretty jerky. Sometimes it even seems to go back & forth It's really unwatchable....

However, if I record a show and watch it back it's fine

Any ideas on where to look to troubleshoot this issue?

Thanks!

I have to ask. Do you already have a sage license? If not sagetv is no longer for purchase. I don't want you to waste any time on something you may not be able to use.

However, change the delay to wait in the properties file to something higher than the default of 4000ms. I have mine set to 8000ms and do not have that issue.

Do you have the Arcsoft decoder installed? And selected in Sage? It comes on the Colossus install disk and is installed when the TotalMedia program gets installed.. Without the Arcsoft decoder I think you will have playback trouble.

Hi guys - thanks for the replies

I do have the Arcsoft program installed but I have no idea where this should be selected in SageTv or if. As far as I know, I think you only need the Colossus driver...either way though, the Arcsoft app is installed

I re-installed SageTv and it seems to be better but the video is still jerky/blocky and at times it artifacts It seems to be worse on HD channels if that helps?

I tried changing the setting delay_to_wait_after_tuning but this didn't fix it - all it seemed to do was what it said - add a delay after tuning. Was that the right entry?

Any other ideas? I seem to have a perfect SageTV install other then the jerky audio and video. I'm using component in as well as the optical in on the Colossus card.

Thanks for any and all ideas/help

I give up on SageTV

I knew it was no longer officially supported but I figured I could still get it up and running at least as reliably as Windows Media Center but I don't think it's going to happen.
