Sage 4.0 Stutter
Okay, so you can shoot me for my stupidity here, but in case any of you have any ideas, I would certianly appreciate the help.
I have SageTV 4.0 running on my main PC in the office (Win XP SP2) as a server to some MVPs. It was working quite beautifully. Well, then, my five year old got some computer games for her birthday (Dora the Explorer ![]() And, now, watching a show in SageTV or even a Sage recording in Windows Media palyer results in a stutter in the playback. I have uninstalled the software, played around with VMR9, 3D Acceleration, Overlay, Defaults, video encoders, etc. all without success. My next step will be reinstalling Windows (kind of needed to do this anyway), but to the extent I can avoid it because somebody knows of some registry setting, tweak or otherwise ... seemed like it would be worth a shot to ask anyway. Anybody got any ideas? Thanks! |

I just upgraded my system with a new video card. I also get micro stuttering when playing back video under DirectX9c. Initially, I couldn't get 3D acceleratrion to work at all with Sagetv. When enabled in DirectX it would just not allow me to play video at all. It eventually turned out to be a problem with my motherboard chipset drivers.
If I were you, I might look at updateing every driver you can find for your system. It helped for me but the stuttering problem is not entirely gone. I have read that other people can not get VMR9 to work at all with DirectX9c which was my scenario until after I upgraded my motherboard drivers. Good luck |

You might also want to use DXinfo or something similar to make sure that the stupid program didn't go and install the older DirectX anyway. It wouldn't be the first time I'd seen that.
That's why nothing but Sage/AV related stuff goes on my Sage Server. My main pc is already messed up enough that I don't worry about it any more. One of these days I've got to scrub it and start all over again so I can get back things like the USB/Firewire tray item so I can "legally" disconnect USB/Firewire items.
