1080p artifacts poll

Let's see who else is seeing this issue:

When running at 1080p with HDMI some people see gree/white lines, speckles, dots etc.

That's most likely a display issue thatn a source issue. I just had my Westinghouse 42" 1080p LCD TV replaced because the HDMI had exactly those issues.

edit: Sounds like some people are having issues with HDMI on the STX-1000

That is easy to test, I have the HTPC with HDMI going to another Samsung that runs without artifacts at 1080p. I just have to carry the TV down and hook it up. If it too gives artifacts there then it is the TV, if not, it's Sage.

It does run fine at 1080p with component though, but I'll give it a try to cover all angles.

I responded 3, all resolutions, though 480p and 480i work fine but all others have artifacts (that wasn't an option in the poll).

I just got my extender yesterday. When I played with various resolutions I did notice some had artifacts. I thought it might be something with my display. I settled on 1280x720p and found the picture quality was good with no artifacts.

Today, after leaving the unit plugged in all day in standby, I turned it on only to see artifacts all over the screen. Its very bad and unwatchable. The only resolution that does not display artifacts is 480p or 480i.

I'm using an HDMI to DVI cable. I'm going to dig up some component cables to try now.

Interestingly, I still see artifacts when I put the unit in standby when the display is still on. But when I pull the HDMI cable, the artifacts disappear.

I am 50/50

I have two HD Extenders and I see the artifacts on only one of them. Since I have been busy, I haven't had a chance to swap extenders to see if it is the TV or the extender that is causing the problem, but both of them use the same Monoprice 3' cables. For all I know, it could be that one TV (JVC) has a more forgiving HDMI receiver than the other (Samsung).

I vote for a bad shield ground for that one. Do you have another table to try? If it worked then the problem is in the cable, otherwise it could be in the extender

I'll try the TV on my HTPC system (I have 2 Samsungs, 51" and 40"), but the fact that if I moce the HDMI cable slightly sideways in the back of the HD Extender the artifacts get worse seems to indicate a problem with the HD Extender .. grounding or something.

On second thought, I'll also put the 52" on the HD Extender with the same cable .. if it too shows artifacts then it's not the TV Have to try all combinations to give Sage Tech support some help

Unhappy 1080P issues with my Samsung LNT-4661F

I'm getting lots of pixel drop-outs and speckling on my brand-new Samsung LNT-4661F. My first thought was that it was a cable problem (I've tried two of the 2 meter Monoprice HDMI cables and get similar results).

I'm having my brother bring over his PS3 next week to test whether it's the TV or not...

I am using this http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16812189053 cable with my Samsung LNT-4061F and have no problems.
Note: I am using the original firmware because I am unable to update the firmware (probably a Vista issue).

Took the HD Extender downstairs to the 52" Samsung that I know has no issues with 1080p HDMI since I'm running my SageTV through it

480p fine
720p fine
1080i fine
1080p artifacts

So I know now it's not the TV. 2 different TV's, 2 different cables. The only constant is HD Extender.

I already submitted a support ticket.

I had another thread on this, but thought I'd vote on the poll. I see the speckles on 720P from HDMI. Component works fine. Sage Support told me it is a cable issue, but the cable works fine from the cleint PC. I just think the extenders HDMI is not gounded or sheilded well enough. Hopefully they will fix it on future versions of the extender (i.e. before I buy the one that I really need the HDMI output for, my current extender can be used on another TV that needs component anyway).

I don't have another HDMI->DVI cable. Would anyone recommend a good one I can buy? One that's well shielded but not rediculously expensive. Only need one about 6 ft long.

I think we have enough people who voted in the pole to rule out cables, since a lot have tried different cables with the same effect. If they tell me it's a cable issue, I would like support to recommend a cable and I'll buy it, but if the artifacts are still there, I would want to RMA work a working one I bought mine for HD 1080p DVI and I would like to work.

PS: Thanks for voting here, we need more people to try all combinations so we can rule out cables/TV's etc.

I have one of those in white btwn mine and a Samsung. 1080p on the xbox is fine; sparkles w/ the HD100. even tried one from bestbuy (not monster) and had the same results. I've got 1 more option arriving in the mail next week. it's not that i can tell the difference in I vs P, but it's the principle of the thing.

I think support is looking into this in more detail. They asked me to try a couple of things with the custom resolutions, but that didn't help. They also asked for the model of my TV.

If everyone here can put in a support request with the following:
- Cable(s) tried
- TV(s) tried

It think that kind of stats will help them

Funny enough, I also have a Samsung, actually 2, LNT4065F and LNT5265F both have the speckling at 1080p (yes it is the principal )

Maybe it's a TV model thing ?
