1080p

Anyone outputting to 1080p?

I have good luck running all formats, 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i to my projector, kitchen TV and plasma, neither of which are running 1080p.

My living room TV is a native 1080p device being driven by a Nvidia 6200 at 1920x1080. It runs 480i, 480p, and 720p. 1080i high motion stuff (ie, CBS football, NBC football) has stuttering which gives me a headache. Do I not have enough video processing power? I've tried both overlay and VMR9 - overlay is better, but still stutters.

I ran a 37" 1080p set with VMR9, using an AGP 6600GT/84.21 drivers/.185 decoders. I had to use FSE or I'd get tearing. I still had some stutter on some channels that disabling AMD's Cool 'n' Quiet seemed to fix. (or it may have been PCI bus related...Fusion5). Since switching to the HDHR everything is smooth. I'm at 1366x768 now though. Can you borrow a 6600GT or better, to test?

What are your computer's specs? I get smooth playback on 1080 contents. My computer specs are in the sig.

Encoders...?

I'm just running 1080i but for some reason have difficulty running even Standard Definition with VMR9. Overlay works perfectly fine except on live HD - after about 20 minutes playback goes to consistently chopped up. CPU usage stays normal (about 30%) and memory usage is at about 850mb of 1gb. I have tried several decoders, but the only one that will play HD consistently smoothly is from Elecard. Tried Nvidia (have and FX5200 128mb AGP 8x) but the encoder properties won't display to change settings. I manually launched the properties page from a DirectX utility and checked the settings there - hardware acceleration was checked. Anyway, I don't seem to have the stall out when set to VMR9, but playback isn't quite as smooth. I don't care whether I have to use Overlay or VMR9 - I just want it to play smooth and look good.

What media player does Sage use? Is it integrated or does it use Windows Media?

Cool 'n Quiet is rather spastic with clock speeds. Try SpeedSwitchXP; it doesn't downclock as aggressively.
