Here's a crazy idea: Would it be possible to pull out the video player portion of Kodi Android and embed it in the Sage app like you are doing with the other player? I took a quick look at the Kodi source code and it wasn't immediately obvious to me where the Android player code is so I don't know if it is even separable/possible but I thought I would throw it out there...

I'm actually using a Logitech remote to the shields built in rf sensor. I'm pretty sure media_stop would do it.

I Just sideloaded the last APK I found in this thread on my Hisense Vision Stuckless and it was working partially meaning the video and audio played but were out of sync.

Great work so far on the app and well worth 50 from me if it keeps you improving the app as I would love to be able to play the video flawlessly in the future.

Thanks for improving it as much as you have.

I did actually look at Kodi to see what the are doing, but their player is so integrated that it would take considerable effort to do it. I'm sure it's possible, given enough time and resource, but not sure how likely it is.

Eventually, if no-one else decided to try it, I may attempt to do iOS. I have a mix of iOS and Android devices in my house... I just find it easier to work on Android.

Depending on the device and file type I wonder if it was forced into software decoding. To be honest I get audio/video sync issues from time to time on my HD300... I'm not sure if there is a magic key in sagetv to tell it re-align the audio/video, but I know it's annoying when it happens... And I've seen it happen on .ts, .mp4 and .mkv files.. it's rare, but it happened just the other night I'm not even sure what causes a video to get out of sync.

Many thanks to all the indiegogo funders and the previous funders as well.

Just an update...
The next couple of weekends are booked for me But I'll try to make some small adjustments along the way. Jeff and Jean-Francois are helping (when they can) so hopefully we'll get push buffers (live tv + seeking) working at some point.

Based on scale, it likely would be easier to jam the sage UI rendering into a fork of Kodi than it would be the other way around.

I absolutely agree... Not my core skillset, though. This would require some extensive c/c++ coding to make this happen... but certainly plausible. Maybe if the Android port totally bombs... I'll look into this clever idea.

Sean,

You think you could try to get the stop button working before you take off the next couple of weeks? Let me know if you need anything from me to help on this.

If I can get a build out tomorrow morning, it will have the stop button in there (untested). I'm not really going away, just, my time will spent entertaining the in-laws, you know juggling or whatever else is required of me. So if I can get breaks, I'll be working on this

I don't use gemstone (still rocking the awesome original Phoenix stv) but this is probably helpful for others.

New Version 0.12-ALPHA

This is a very minor update that just adds support for the MEDIA_STOP key.

As for right click and esc, I'm not sure how we'd emulate that using the remote. Did you check out the navigation on the very first post, to see if anything fits into what you are trying to accomplish?
It seems to work now with 11. Long press on the select button made the action I wanted happen.

I use it for bringing up menus. If there is another keypress I can use, I'm all ears.

An example would be on the main sage screen pressing esc opens up the gemstone menu that pops up on the right.

That's the 'OPTIONS' sagetv command, ESC key on a keyboard by default, and it is the right command for bringing up options menus..

Hi - so far this is working great. Question: is Landscape the only mode supported for Android phone use? Running 5.1.1

And...it's still only a local app, correct? No remote features added as of yet

cheers

Awesome. Thanks. I knew it was something simple.

This is a miniclient, which is essentially the same capabilities as Placeshifter, or a media extender. I don't think it is ever intended to be a 'remote control' for a different sage client. That is something that COULD be done as an STV, which would then work on this placeshifter - but I don't think it's ever been in the scope of this particular project.

sorry, I meant from a remote locale, or in as much as we could enter DNS servers (as we can with Placeshifter) as opposed to our home, internal network IP address only.
