Finally, a fully functional SageTV client on android and iphone!
I didnt believe this until i saw it with my own eyes... .
Imagine a fully functional SageTV PC client on iphone, ipad, and android at full frame rate and full resolution of your phone. Heck, imagine being able to play the games you normally play on your PC on your phone, ipad, etc still at full frame rate. Its the way Remote Desktop should have been all along. Check this out: http://www.splashtop.com/home Just install Splashtop streamer on your SageTV server (I dont think it works on WHS).. then install Splashtop client on any device. You really have to see it to believe it. Ive never seen my ancient android phone do things like this ever. Over you LAN its free. Over Internet it's a small monthly charge. I have no idea how they did it; but glad we have something like this now.

I've used Splashtop for some time. Great over the LAN, but still can't come close to Plex or Air Video for streaming video over the Internet....

Hmm... It doesnt make any different to me whether on the LAN or over Internet. I guess if a person has limited upstream Internet speed, their option are much more limited. I get full resolution and frame rate; plus, not limited to just only what plex/air video can do. Its smooth as silk for me; even on my HTC android phone.
Edit: Only takes up about 1mbps upstream for me; whether on LAN or over Internet for my android phone. Not sure what more one could expect.

I think if you search these forums for Splashtop, you'll find that many of us have been using and recommending this for quite awhile

I admit, I haven't been near as active on these forums as I used to. Not sure how I missed something this useful.
It's actually the first time I've been able to flip through live TV channels using a fully functional SageTV client on my old android phone. I can't wait to try it on a full blown PC at full resolution at work!

If you haven't tried Plex + Sage I would suggest giving that a go. It runs natively on your phone, has a great interface, communicates directly with your server running Sage + Plex, and supports on the fly transcoding to when you dont have the necessary bandwidth to your phone.

Maybe I'm missing something. I had ruled out using Plex a long time ago when I didnt see any easy way to flip though live tv channels, use the sagetv guide, schedule recordings, etc...things I normally do on my sagetv client. Since I've never been able to do these kinds of things: including media file playback all convently on my phone using one app, I really got a kick out of it (when I could finally do this under Splashtop. If there's any other way for me to do the same things I do in my sagetv client, also on my phone, id love to know how.

Yes, Splashtop is pretty awesome, except that it can be hard to use on a phone because the UI isn't design for something so small.
Now we just need someone to design an STV that is more splashtop friendly. |

Actually, its not bad at all on my 4.3" HTC EVO screen. I'm sure it would be very nice on a Galaxy 3s or Note 2. Works perfectly fine using my Verizon's 4g lte wireless internet hotspot. I can understand though why some people may not be so enthusiastic with smaller screens or slower 3g.

I use both Plex and Splashtop on the Note 2.
Plex for prerecorded stuff because of it's touch friendly interface. Splashtop for any live viewing or when I want "real" SageTV functionality. The S Pen comes in handy for navigating the SageTV interface on the Note 2. |
