Will an HDHomeRun tune better than an HVR-1600?

I have a crappy cable connection that doesn't tune digital very well (I don't actually have digital service) but I do happen to get a few channels that come in good enough to watch (they have glitches every now and then). I'm pretty sure they are ClearQAM.

Since I can't get the digital side of the HVR-1600 to pick up any channels, will I have better luck with an HDHomerun? I've heard the tuners are "more sensitive" in the Homerun.. does anyone have experience with a similar situation to me?

How does the software work? From what I've read, there is not a web interface or something - you actually have to configure it from a PC that is running the configuration software. Is the configuration actually stored on the HDhomerun itself (so eg, if I configure it using the Windows app, can I then use Sage on Linux to connect to it)?

If you have a lot of splitters, taps, or bad cabling that could be the issue too. The one really big advantage with using the HDHR is being able to locate the tuners right next to where your your main cable is coming into the house with minimal splits. Especially, since you never know what's in the walls as far as splitters and couplers...

I love my HDHR, and don't have any experience with the 1600. I think once the channel setup is done in the HDHR software you're done. Meaning they store a file scn in your sage folder of the tunable channels. So I believe you could do what you are asking.

I have both the 1600 and hdhomerun, and i don't see a differerence. Plus, the signal meter gives me pretty much the same reading on both. I would suggest a decent drop amp instead, Ihave a bunch of splitters and it did wonders for my reception.
