How to make Motorola Cable box turn ON after power failure

Anyone figure out how to make a Motorola cable box (specifically QIP7100) automatically turn ON after a power failure?

Mine (and I'm guessing everyone else's) come back powered off after a power failure. really sucks when you're using a HDPVR. I've looked in the normal setup menus but don't see anything to do it.

Thanks

I have a scheduled job that runs at 2am every day, and whenever the machine boots. It turns the power off, and then back on, and tunes to a channel, mostly since I split the output to go to an analog TV, and I watch the news in the morning on that TV while I exercise. I use firewire tuning, so I just call channelw.exe in a batch file.

not aware of a way to do that. have you thought about a UPS power backup? even the lostest backup battery one should last a long time if it is just the STBs. That is a thought for you.

+1 on a cheap UPS... will last many hours if you only have low-draw devices attached.

I have a qip7100 as well, once you get firewire tuning set up, it accepts most of the extra commands that timmmore has on his website. So my batch file is

Code:
"C:\Program Files\Timmmoore\MCE 2005 STB Controller\channel" -f -d -n d44c9afeffa22300 9
ping -n 10 127.0.0.1>nul
"C:\Program Files\Timmmoore\MCE 2005 STB Controller\channel" -f -d -n d44c9afeffa22300 13
ping -n 10 127.0.0.1>nul
"C:\Program Files\Timmmoore\MCE 2005 STB Controller\channel" -f -a6 -n d44c9afeffa22300 5
d44c9afeffa22300 is the device ID, you could use 1,2 or whatever else you use when you use firewire tuning as well. In the first line 9 means power off, it obviously doesn't have any effect when it's already off. In the second line 13 means power on. In the third line, it tunes to channel 5( so I can pump hte output to an analog TV in the morning for the news while I work out) Note the -d options for when I'm controlling the box, and the -a6 for when I'm tuning.

The pings are just for a pause, not sure if they are needed anymore, they were when i first set this up over a year ago.

How did you get the drivers for the qip7100? Would you be willing to share them with me?

I have looked everywhere and posted on 6 different forums with no response, even from the author of the program. The current driver install package doesn't recognise the qip7100 and the "panel" portion ends up staying unrecognized.

Thanks

Get them from here http://home.comcast.net/~exdeus/stbfirewire/

Then edit the firestb.inf file in wordpad, just look for the lines that contain 6416 and copy them. You'll have to add 4 new lines

%AVC\MOTOROLA&QIP-7100&TYP_5&ID_0.DeviceDesc%=MEITUNER.MOTO,AVC\MOTOROLA&QIP-7100&TYP_5&ID_0
%AVC\MOTOROLA&QIP-7100&TYP_9&ID_0.DeviceDesc%=MSPANEL.MOTO,AVC\MOTOROLA&QIP-7100&TYP_9&ID_0

and

AVC\MOTOROLA&QIP-7100&TYP_5&ID_0.DeviceDesc="Motorola AV/C Tuner Device (QIP-7100)"
AVC\MOTOROLA&QIP-7100&TYP_9&ID_0.DeviceDesc="Motorola AV/C Panel Device (QIP-7100)"

Just put them under the lines for the QIP6416 that look similar to the lines I posted. Then you can install them per the instructions on the website.

you can also use the force switch in the command line ( i think -f)... that will force the command even if the STB isn't "supported" ... when using force i don't think you need to any registry hacking (at least this was the case with my dch3200)

I have the Motorola QIP-7100 working for channel changing as well but I can't get it to stream back video for channels which I know are unencrypted. I have a Motorola DCH-6200 and the video streaming for those same channels works fine.

Has anyone had any luck using the Motorola QIP-7100 for firewire video recording? Any tips to getting that working?
