Motorola DCT6200 cable box from Comcast, control?
I did a search of the forum, but this box seems to be the latest and greatest, and I just got one for HD reception through Comcast Cable. It seems to have a serial port, and I wondered if I could change channels on this box via the serial port, which I understand if possible is much faster than the IR route... any advice or links?
I did a search here and came up empty-handed. On another note, if using two Hauppauge capture cards, and your display device supports multiple inputs, is it possible to run component cables to the display for HD reception, and straight cable to one of the Hauppauge cards to allow simultaneous viewing/recording? This is NOT for recording HD, which I know requires special hardware, but only for HD viewing through one display input, and regular SageTV usage (two cards) and output into a DVI/HDMI connection... thanks all *** Edit *** The 6200 does not have a serial port, after finding a manual, it is actually a DVI port... guess IR Blaster is my only option? Actually, I think folks on the MythTV list have figured out how to control the DCT 6200 tuner via firewire. Windows handles firewire in a crappier way than linux, but the code should be portable.
Of course, if 5C is set, you won't be able to read the stream. But for control this a good way. Thanks, Mike |

To piggy-back on this thread, I just want to be sure that I can use USB-UIRT to control my Motorola DCT6200 box before I pick one up.
I figure I'll run the DCT6200 to one of my 2 tuners and use USB-UIRT to control the box. If this goes well, then pickup a DCT2244 and hook that up to the other tuner, so I can record and timeshift digital cable. Right now I have both tuners hooked up to analog cable and use Sage only for recording and viewing that content. I use my DCT6200 to watch liveTV and HD content. So, again can the USB-UIRT control a Motorola DCT6200?

USB-UIRT works fine with the DCT6200. I'm getting a 2nd one this week. Sure would be nice if Sage could suck out that HD data on the firewire port....

Cool, thanks Morgan. Capturing HD would be sweet!

I had been controlling a DCT2xxx cable box via serial up until recently when I purchased an HDTV and replaced the cable box with a DCT 62xx series. The new box doesn't have serial, but it does have firewire. I'd love to be able to control the tuning of channels over the firewire connection (much like I had done on the old box using serial). Is there any sort of DCT plugin for Sage that allows this? I'm not interested in capturing HD (yet ).
