How old is SageTV?

I was curious as to how old SageTV is (well, wondering who has been using it longer than me, other than stanger/other usual suspects of course). I see this post from 2/2003, was it really only first available then?

I ask b/c I found post #28 (quoted below) on this forum, dated 2/27/2003. I bought Sage somewhere around 9/03, and from how easy it was to setup and how stable it's been, it's hard to comprehend that it had only launched 6 months beforehand.

Not that I really need to know, just curious.

Narflex's profile page shows he joined the forum on 02-13-2003, for whatever that's worth.

(By an odd coincidence, it also shows that he and I share a birthday.)

the forum itself was started in 2003, though I'm pretty sure the underlinings of Sage were being developed for years beforehand. Remember, it was mostly a brother collaboration to begin with.

Another important milestone was obtaining nation-wide EPG support, which didn't happen until 10/28/2003. I had to use XMLTV before that.

To nitpick, v2 wasn't released until 5/2/2004. It was the beta that came out in December of 2003.

And, I still say version 3 was released- they just called it version 4. If I remember correctly, SageTV justified the move to v4 by saying it included SageTV Studio, which wasn't in the v3 betas. But, I think they were just trying to keep up in version numbering to BeyondTV, who released version 4 at about the same time.

By the way, in a different thread I posted a history of SageTV releases (I was arguing it had been an extraordinarily long time since a SageTV beta). It's a little more detailed when it comes to showing beta releases, but it doesn't talk about Linux/Mac versions at all. Since this will presumably by the SageTV history thread, I thought I'd post it over here too.

Looks like I've been voted out of office. I was just trying to list some major highlights and not all the betas. But reggie 14 picked up my slack. Nice job.

wow, that's amazing that it was commercially available on 5/31/03, and I bought in mid-sept-ish (aka, 3.5 months later) and it was mega-stable.

Thanks for the rundown, very interesting.

That's been one of Sage's strong points, and probably what has kept a lot of us here. Sage works, whether the GUI is up to date or not

I originally had a TiVo series 1 and was looking for something that could handle multiple tuners. Since buying SageTV at the end of June 2003, my system has gone through multiple changes (having the PVR-350 drive my TV, adding a MediaMVP, going from PCI based encoders to USB, and finally transitioning to HD with the HDHR, HD-PVR and HD extenders). There are more than a few people inside Rockwell Collins who run SageTV because of my good experiences with the system.

Well in my case, it's a cause/effect thing. I still use the base GUI, but that's b/c the wife enjoys the stability and has grown to understand it & where everything is. When I tried switching to SageMC, her response was 'oh geez, what did you do, put it back to how it was because i know how to make that work'.

She lives with enough 'enhancing' other places, so i'll let her have the stock Sge GUI...
