IT seems awfully quiet in the beta department... until now

Checking the beta notification thread show that it has been almost 3 months since Sage 6.62 was released and I haven't seen a beta since then (other than firmware for the HD200). Is it just my imagination or is that a long time to wait between Sage betas? Has Sage just given developers some time off in the summer or are they working on something really big for us?

Not complaining, just wondering...

Sage said the last few releases were all about bug fixes and stability which meant...

a) There was no shortage of work to do
b) Work items had a quick turn around time
c) They needed as much user testing as possible during the process

Which probably explains why we got all those rapid fire betas that spoiled us

But, from Brent's interview, it sounds like they're going to be focusing on features now and those take much longer to get to a beta state. We already saw some nice bumps for the HD Extenders and if I were a gambling man I'd bet we see the next beta cycle start in mid-November and include a fully baked new feature.

Man, I hope it won't be that long. That's too long for me to think about "things" (Roku, Win7 MC, etc.) ...

6.4.8 to 6.5.1 had a 3 month lapse. I hope it's not that long (although I'd wait even longer for a UI update)

I obviously don't know what they're working on, but in Brent's interview Sage talked about working on the "server on a stick" software (Sage on a bootable USB drive), and a new/improved stock UI for the Sage software. Those seem like pretty significant new features, and would more than justify a relatively long wait until seeing a new round of betas.

I'm guessing that while we might see another firmware version for the extenders, and possibly another maintenance release in the server software if a a significant bug is found, the next version of Sage will probably be v7. v6 has been around almost 3 years now, so it's probably about time for Sage to bump up version numbers and charge another upgrade fee. I don't know about the rest of you, but I certainly don't mind paying $40 or so every few years for software updates.

I used to install betas at the first opportunity, but I stopped doing that a long time ago.

I HOPE they're working on solving the ongoing HD200 problem so that those of us who are stuck on 20090505 can come up to the current version without decimating what little WAF we have built up lately.

I hope those of you with problems have kept Sage informed that you've reverted back, otherwise they may well think the issue is resolved.

They apparently have a list of us with this problem. They emailed me to try it again a beta or two ago and I let them know that the problems persist.

I'm just about to buy a BD drive so I hope it's the ability to play BDs from a ripped directory in native BD format.

Not sure what calendar you're using, but I make it less than two months since 6.6.2 was release on 7/27.

Who said that the new beta cycle hasn't started......?

At least a part of it is already public....

I think the dev team is working overtime already.

What I'd love that amazing new feature to be is a new box - one that I will gladly pay a couple hundred for thats a full HD solution with support for cable card - aka a Tivo like device. If theres a competition issue, then make them two seperate devices - where you can plug in an HDPVR device directly into the HDExtender like device where the software is preconfigured.

I used to love tinkering with stuff to make the add in cards and other hardware work with Sage and getting Sage tweaked. But after my last round of building a sage box for a friend with an HD extender and an HDPVR attached to his cable box and the fact it took everything under the sun to make it work right, I've kinda given up on sage.

My own personal sage box now is used only as a media server and I use the PS3 to play the videos now to the HDTV.

in the opposite corner, i am happy to run a stable system for the next 6 months while "new" things get privately developed. it has been relaxing to have my PVR just work, and i enjoyed the vacation from testing/upgrading/testing.

that's not to say i don't want a new beta, just that i am up over 30 days of uptime on the server now

Actually that's quite sad. My MCE 2005 setup can run for many months without problems. Of course, there have been no updates since 2005.

I'm sitting at ~265 days of uptime.... The only reason it's not higher is I had to reboot to get my firewire working properly after I plugged in a new cable box.

So can Sage, I and many others have done it....

That's really the "problem" though. Most of us can't leave it alone long enough to really rack up the time

I just checked and my server's been up for 18 days, but that's only because I was restless and decided to break my HD PVR a couple weeks ago (stupid! if it ain't broke! ).

Except for half a dozen or so security updates for XP every month that require reboots.

I'm not satisfied until I manage to screw things up as my family can atest to .
