It's pretty quiet...

Dekard and a select few here have been having any activity here... what's going on with the Linux Distro anyway? Silence in this case in not good here as a lot of problems have been listed without answer...

If placeshifting is holding things so far back then forget it as I prefer to see a rock solid implimentation that doesn't need to have auto reboots every 24 hours, etc... when I'm out somewhere that has internet I usually have access to some sort of television, especially at least BBC, which is all I'd ever really need.

I totally agree with that statement. I dont need placeshifting that much and I guess I am hoping that Linux version 5 has a client install option so that I can get some use out of my license.

The new version will run as a service by default (similar to install mode 0) and the way to see the user interface/videos will be through a local/lan placeshifter client.

Will the new place shifter client be able to interact with a Windows Sage system? And do you know if it will run on Intel Mac hardware?

Thanks

All the Sage products are compatible whether they are Windows based or Linux based. I'd be very suprised if that changed. As far as the mactel question just check www.gentoo.com and see if the mactel's are compatible with Gentoo 2.6.15 or higher. That should provide you with quite a bit of information.

In my opinion the Linux Edition presents quite a hurdle to leap. Most users of Sage are going to be on the Windows edition since it is so much easier to setup and use. I'm a network admin and I struggled with it since I have limited Linux experience. However, out of the box the linux edition provides an excellent experience and is extremely stable. Frankly, most people using the Linux edition probably don't need to post here.

The only reason you see so much activity from me is because I can't stop hacking my box. I've screwed it up once and had to reinstall but I just started over and kept going. I'm learning a ton about linux and that was my intention for starting the Linux box in the first place.

And for the record, my Linux box rarely needs reboots. I reboot my linux box because it locked up about one third as often as I reboot my dedicated win xp pro sage client. And the hardware on the Linux side is about 5 years old compared to new stuff in the win box.

By the way, I just saw this thread or I would have posted before.

Not looking to run Gentoo on my Mac, looking to run Linux PlaceShifting client on it.
