Question About Upcoming Channel Rescanning and EPG Remapping

As many are aware, this Friday the 18th, those of us who get TV over OTA solutions will need to rescan in order to figure out where our channels have gone.

I have an HDHomerun Dual tuner, and I already know that I have to scan it through their app, but how do I handle the remapping within SageTV after I rescan in there? Will everything automatically remap itself to the proper channels, or is there some manual work I need to do later to match everything up?

My biggest concern is that the rescanning takes place while I'm out of the country in London, and I am unsure if I will have consistent remote access via VNC in order to do the rescanning myself.

I believe this is happening all over the country. The FCC chose to do this in phases. Most of Chicago's stations are in the Phase 6 switchover, which is the one happening this week. It's all supposed to be done by sometime in 2020.

It depends on the area. In some places, such as Los Angeles (I believe), it is already complete. You only really need to rescan if channels you are interested in are part of that phase. So, if you don't have a problem, no need to worry. And, just to be complete, it doesn't affect cable.

Entirely apart from the changeover, new channels are often being added. A rescan is needed if you want to watch those.

So this explains why I have had trouble recording golf in the last few months from WIVB, the CBS affiliate in Buffalo. They changed physical channels on July 29.

My recollection is that a rescan in Silicon Dust handles everything and that a rescan in SageTV isn’t required to detect frequency changes.

You can check the transition dates for your local stations at the link below and sign-up for notifications. My locals transitioned at several different times, but the majority of them are moving this Friday.

CLT did this twice, some stations as scheduled on 06 Sep. Another batch later because of a hurricane that weekend.

I re-scanned in HDhomerun app, then again in SageTV on both occasions.
Then I had emails back and forth with Schedules direct because some call signs were apparently new.

Unfortunately, rescanning seems to have caused a problem that I was experiencing the last time I rescanned a couple weeks back. Programs that were recording just fine are not experiencing "Halt detected" errors, and when I try to rescan in SageTV after rescanning in the HDHomerun software, it refuses to see the tuners that were there prior to the rescan.

I forget how it resolved itself the last time, because it just began working again just as easily as it had stopped before.

If this is someone's way of telling me to upgrade my tuner, I am not amused...
