Rebuild not recognizing HD PVR2

I recently rebuilt my PC (old one died) and decided to replace my old capture cards with the HD PVR2.

Sage TV 9.1.8 isn't recognizing the capture device. It says:
No video capture devices were found.

What is required to determine the issue?

FYI Hauppauge HD PVR2 157320 Rev E3

What info do you need from the properties and log files?

Weren’t there some registry changes needed to make HDPVR2 work with Sage?

Is the USB port providing enough power to the HD PVR2? Perhaps try a different port or a powered USB hub.

The device itself is working. When I run the Hauppague Capture or WinTV 8.5 apps, they work.

I disabled the HauppagueTVServer service as well, just in case that was preventing it from seeing the device. That didn't help.

Assuming this is running on Windows, several things to check:

1. The SageTv service needs to be restarted after initially installing (or updating) any of the Hauppauge drivers. Presumably the system was rebooted after installing the drivers, in which case this should be ok.

2. Using a text editor, examine the contents of the sage.properties file. Search for the string "ignore_encoders". If that line contains the Hauppauge device name (the name for the HD-PVR2 is "Siena"), stop the SageTv service and delete that device name (and trailing "|"). Then restart Sage.

3. Using regedit, verify that the following key exists in the registry: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Frey Technologies\Common\AdditionalCaptureSetups\Hauppauge Siena Video Capture]

It the above doesn't produce anything interesting, stop and then restart Sage. Let it run for 2-3 minutes and stop Sage again. Then capture the sagetv_0.txt and sage.properties files. Post the files here for others to examine.

Removing the entry from ignore_encoders allowed it to be discoverable.

I have also set the delay_to_wait_after_tuning=4000 to 8000 instead.

Now down to two issues:

1) Video but no sound on live TV. I selected Component+SPDIF which apparently has problems? Didn't see a fix for that yet other than switching to HDMI and a converter.

2) IR not working. Set to Hauppauge IR Blaster Stub Device. It won't let me change it once set and won't let me use test codes. Where choices should be it just says cancel. It also isn't activating the blaster itself. Again, it worked through the native tools.

Will upload the sagetv_0.txt and sage.properties files.

Thanks for the help.

Can you give more details on the audio not working problem? Is this with live tv or a recording? How are you watching (client, extender,...)?

For ir, are you trying to use the blaster (to change channels on a cable box), or the receiver (for a remote control)? Do you have more than one Hauppauge device installed on your computer?

Watching through the native Hauppauge Capture app has video and sound.

Playing previously recorded shows (pre-crash) have video and sound (no surprise, but indicates not a playback config issue).

Going to TV -> Watch Live TV on the computer itself has video, no sound. It flashes a no signal message very briefly before switching to video, if that matters.

I set it to do a timed recording 1 minute out with a duration of 2 minutes. It too has video, but no sound.

For the blaster, I am using the blaster that is built into the HDPVR2 to change the cable box channel. It works in the native application, but has the issues I described above through Sage. It acts as if it isn't recognizing the device.

Hopefully that information helps.

Also, I could erase everything and do a completely fresh install (rather than an over-install). I know I need to save my wiz.bin file. Are there other files I would need to copy back into place afterwards? Also, I had the commercial license which provided the MPEG decoder, if I recall. What would I need to do to get that back in place (or is there an alternative that is recommended).

Thanks again.

Silly me. I realized this morning SPDIF meant use the optical audio cable. Hooked that up and now have video and sound!

The IR also is mysteriously working as well.

Thanks for all of your help!

Sage has the best fans ever.
