I am at a loss trying to figure how to get my hdpvr 2 to process bistreamed audio. I am sending the signal to it from a ceton echo that offers the option of either 2.0, or bistreamed 5.1 output either via hdmi or optical.
The problem is that 5.1 from the ceton echo to the hdpvr via any of these options just produces a loud distortion. Any ideas?

Buy a BM3000-HDMI instead. Works like a charm on ALL channels.

Does anyone know if the MiBox with the android app will have the same issue with this AC3 fix and not wanting to play live TV?

just found this thread after having a few HBO problems with my new HD-PVR 2 (replacing a 10 year old original 1212).

Does this problem explain why the HD300 is unable to playback audio in a TS file that has both an AAC and Dolby 5.1 audio stream? What's weird is not all HBO shows broadcast with both streams, for example the first showing of "Big Little Lies" last night on DirecTV had an AAC component & a Dolby Digital (the one the HD300 says has no audio), but the repeat airing an hour later only had Dolby Digital, which the HD300 played fine (live). This has happened now two weeks in a row.

Edit: Man I'm old. Completely forgot about this thread and discussion about the 2's audio issues, which I pariticipated in back a few years when I bought my first HD-PVR 2.

What's strange is, that older HD-PVR 2 has produced recordings with -no audio problems- in the recordings for the past couple of years. Including live playback through extenders. Not sure what magic juju it possesses or when it started to just work. Maybe it's because it's still running on an XP machine.

Hi all just update I sent JustFred a HD-PVR 2 and when he get time he should be able to address the issue with in SageTV so that HDMI+SPDIF show up as input but you still have manuel enable AC3 encoding
I also sent a Colossus so hope lee he can look in that device as well as know it a pain in butt it was
I even manager to score him a HD-PVR 60 so that it can be add in to SageTV at a later date.

I'm not sure when this was fix but we should now have.
Component option for Analog Audio unlike before about 2 1/2 years back.

Thank you for doing this. And also thanks to JustFred for his work in improving compatibility with Hauppauge devices.

To be clear, will this fix also address the "no sound" issue that happens with HD300s?

I'm looking for a replacement for HD PVR 1212 that can support HDMI input for video, support AC-3/DD 5.1 audio, and work with Sage TV 9 and my HD-300s.

What are the options that work properly?

Somebody mentioned BM3000-HDMI , but I don't find that on Google. For HD PVR 2, there are "gaming edition" and non-gaming. Is there a difference to SageTV?

None that work with AC3 or AAC with HD-100, HD-200 or HD-300 at lease not in LiveTV Mode but pre-recording should be fine with HD PVR 2, there are 4 difference generation version and there the PCIe mode which is the same colossus 2.
The gaming edition and the 1512 are 100% the same just a tab bit difference package

Thanks, SHS,

I'll pick up the HD-PVR 2.

In the first post, there is a link to hdpvr2_sagetv_fix.zip. Is that still needed today with SageTV v9?

You don't need it, it all ready build into the new install now just get the latest SageTV ver 9 and latest hauppauge drivers and your all set to go.
How every the one thing you will need HDMI splitter in order get around HDCP look for ViewHD Model: VHD-1X2MN3D and other option

I have the HD-PVR-2 installed with the latest drivers hdpvr2_driver_1_6_34217.exe, and the latest Capture hauppaugecapture_1_1_35054.exe.
SageTV is at current version SageTVSetup_9.1.7.exe

I have video recording and tuning with the HD-PVR-2 working fine.
Audio is recording but any audio recorded by the HD-PVR2 is stereo only, regardless of the number of channels of audio on the source.

I have an HDMI splitter feeding the HDMI input on the HD-PVR2 and the second output driving a "VHD-H2HSAs ViewHD HDMI Audio Extractor" with Optical Toslink output connected to the SPDIF input of the HD-PVR2 with a short TosLink optical cable.

The Capture user interface has changed quite a bit since the start of this thread:

I unchecked Disable HDMI AC-3 Support, which was checked by default.

I have made the registry change to RelatedPinIndex=6 in XBarPin0

This is the registry setting after rebooting. It looks like what is expected in the first post.

Unfortunately, everything recorded by the HD-PVR2 is captured with stereo audio. When I select the HDMI pass-through from the HD-PVR2 output on my AV receiver, I see Dolby Digital 5.1 audio.

Where do I look next?

Brand new. Label says:

HD PVR 2
157320 LF Rev E3

The barcode starts with 2717, followed by a longer number that is presumably the serial.

Is it possible for the HD PVR 2 to encode DD5.1 and AC3 audio off the HDMI input? The audio is there because it is still multi-chan on the pass-through.
Can I configure the HD PVR 2 settings to directly use the HDMI audio, and not even need the HDMI extractor and separate TosLink?

Sorry for late reply, But I DBL check in to this tomorrow, but I don't think it was possible, If I recall right on that part with HDMI DD5.1 recording.

I think if I recall right that only work if your the receiver box has the option to do bitstreaming over HDMI like some console can do instead of just 6 channel LPCM which why you have used optical audio direct off the receiver box as you just end up with stereo audio with the VHD-H2HSAs.

How did you have your VHD-H2HSAs setup before or after the HDMI splitter ?.
Ok if Brand new then more then likely it support AC3 as very first ver of HD-PVR 2 didn't as it didn't come with Optical Audio input.

Ok folk the next update SageTV builder we get will address the missing Audio pins with in SageTV for HD-PVR 2 and Colossus 2 like HDMI+S/PDIF and HDMI+LineIN (Analog Stereo) that are missing.

Now if you wish for AC3 "Dolby Digital 2.0 and 5.1" to enable this just run Registry Editor search in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\ just use search for isAC3enabled and just change it from 0 to 1 that will Enable AC3 once you have done that just reboot for it to take affect.
Note: if own more then one HD-PVR 2 or Colossus 2 besure to fine them all under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\.

Note: HDMI+HDMI Audio can't record AC3 "Dolby Digital 2.0 and 5.1" as there no onboard Dolby Digital Live or Encoder to do this only AAC Stereo is support.

A big thanks go to JustFred
