Nvidia 120+Hz on newer TVs

Has anyone been able to get anything greater than 60Hz output of their nVidia card going to their LCD/Plasma TV? Currently I'm using v.258.96 of the nVidia drivers for an 8600GTS on XP. I've tried creating a custom resolution and a higher refresh (120Hz & 240Hz) but the TV doens't seem to acknowledge this change. TV supports it.

In the driver it says 120Hz but on the TV, the OSD reads 1920 X 1080 : 60Hz.

Anyone? Is this a Samsung or nVidia issue?

Thx

You sure the TV supports receiving a 120Hz framerate?

Make sure you tv supports an input higher than 60 Hz. Normally, the tv ups the signal internally to 120 or 240Hz. Nothing out there (that I know of), like dvd, bluray, game systems don't output 120 or 240 Hz.

Edit: Fuzzy beat me by 2 min.

Oh, so when the manual reads 240Hz refresh rate that's all handled internally?
thx.

Yes, the most it will receive on any given input would be 1920x1080x60. The only real advantage of a 120Hz set over a 60Hz set comes in judder-free playback of 24Hz material. the only advantage of a 240Hz set over a 120Hz set is that you can sell it for more money, because a bigger number is ALWAYS better.. right?

... that's why when I upgrade my car's brakes I opted for the titanium larger brake bearings as opposed to the normal steel brake bearings that all the other cars have. ... if it costs more it HAS to be better.

Thanks for the info.
