I was very surprised about this. This new Chair seems really pro consumer which seems rather unusual these days.

Great, maybe now we can get them to do something about Basic cable stations over unencrypted QAM, CableCARD, active firewire ports and enforcing how stations use CGMS-A.

the CRTC seemed to respond to the simplicity of the argument: big=bad, small=good.
trying to explain to your relatives what unencrypted QAM is will be, of course, much more of an uphill battle.

How about this explanation - there is a way for you to get digital cable, including High Def channels, without needing a cable box. That way you don't need to use two remotes.
