Massive Underscan
I have an 8600 GTS running the nvidia beta 163.11 (and even tried 162.22) in vista 32-bit ultimate attached to a standard TV via composite video. Since running the 16X series of video card driver I have had great PQ but lost the ability to run 720X480 (currently in 800X600) and have a great deal of underscan on the desktop and in Sage (about an inch of black border all around the screen.)
Any ideas on how to get "full screen" again and re-enable 720X480? AWS

163.44 is out on the nzone website. You should be able to adjust it via the nvidia conrol panel anyway. I've had problems with underscan, overscan etc. on my flat panel. FWIW, I don't think 720x480 (DVD) is an SDTV resolution. I think it should be 640x480 for a regular TV set. & I don't know that every composite input could take 720x480 even if you wanted it to. Your video card is probably trying to squish more "non square" pixels into your 640x480 display. Typically 800 x 600 will look crumby on an old tv for your desktop too.
My problems were that the settings I made in the nvidia control panel were not persistent. I'd get it to look correct then, if I turned off the tv or rebooted, it would not go back to the same settings again. I'd get overscan on my 6600GT with XP and underscan with my 8600GTS and Vista. The feature "Do not resize my desktop" wouldn't stick in Vista, but I got it to by changing another setting that determined the method of scaling. I got it to work using "Use Nvidia Scaling" as an option along with "Do not resize my desktop". Of course this is on an LCD not a SDTV. I just couldn't read the forums from the couch at 1080P so I wanted to drop to 720P and thats when the problems started for me. Else you could buy a new TV Last edited by Humanzee; 08-24-2007 at 01:12 PM. |

I'll give the 163.44 set a try.
On my previous driver (forgot version. Was setup/used when I installed this Vista box) 720x480 was an option and worked. I never use the PC for anything other than Sage, so desktop and apps looking crappy isn't an issue. Using my SDTV I don't have any of the "Do not resize my desktop", "Use NVidia scaling". Guess the driver disables and hides those options for such a low res system. "Else you could buy a new TV " Knew that one was coming. My TV is starting to be filed in the technology achives next to the 8-track, BetaMax and record player. The problem is that this TV just won't DIE! AWS

Do what I did. Give it away! Find someone for whom your old TV would be an upgrade and give it to them. Presto! Instant need for new TV and karma points for having done a good deed.
