Studdering Video

I'm not sure if this is a hardware or software issue.

My setup keeps getting studdering video. The picture will play about one second of video, then pause, then snap forward and play another second. The audio is fine.

This happens for both TS files as well as MPEG files. I've tried turning on/off FSE (no effect). I've also changed the MPEG codec from the MS to Arcsoft (which usually will fix the problem....then a day or so later I need to switch back).

Help?

UPDATE:

When I reboot the computer, where there was studdering before, there is none after the reboot. I've also noticed that Sage is slow when the picture is studdering (channel playing while moving through menus).

With the information you have provided it sounds like a memory issue. Is this a client or an HD-200/300 environment? You can install the java/heap plugin to check the utilization and also bump up the java memory on the server if you have enough free.

thanks for the reply.

This is on the main machine (computer). I do have an HD200, and that runs fine (always).

A little update: watching sunday night football. If I watch on an HD channel, bad studdering (and it gets worse over time). If I switch channels to a non-HD, although the graphics are terrible, no studdering.

I have increased my Java size to 400 Hex. It shows 1038MB available and usually has the middle number the same as the right number.

I run a "headless" Sage server so my experience is typically with extenders or clients. In the past I have used the Nvidia PureVideo Decoder (available for a free 30 day trial) and that usually fixed any issue I was having at the client with stuttering. Also, I am currently using EVR as my Video Renderer in the Sage settings so you may want to play with those options as well.

I have an Nvidia (Asus) GT440 (silent) video card.

I have one HD-PVR, a Ceton internal card and a 2250 for recording of channels.

I have 3 2TB drives (only one dedicated for TV shows, the other 2 are for movies).

System is an Asus ATX motherboard with 4GB memory running Windows 7 (32-bit)

What decoder are you using? I know you said in the first post that you switch between MS and Arcsoft, but which Arcsoft are you using?

Been away....

I'm using the Arcsoft Video Decoder (that's all that Sage reports in detailed steup/video/audio)

I would try the LAV filters that includes an nvidia hardware decoder. It is really good if it will work for you in sage. Free too.

You might also try and turn off most of the high end NVidia stuff, if you have updated drivers lately. My new AMD setup had HUGE issues until I turn most of the AMD "extras" off. (not talking about hardware acceleration, but like smoothing, etc.)
