Win7 64-bit wiz.bin location (SageTV V7)

<Back Story...Skip if you don't like to read>

I just got the nerve to upgrade from Vista 32-bit to Win7 64-bit so I could jump to 8GB of RAM. I had Win7 and 4GB around for a while but Sage was working and I was scared to kick a sleeping dog. The HD100's have been running slow lately and thought that the 80% of RAM usage needed to be fixed. Also, I decided to redirect the SSD drive destined for my wife's laptop to the server to give it a little more kick.

</Back Story>

<Front Story...Skip if you really don't like reading>

After installing V7, I copied over my Wiz.bin to the SageTV directory. I thought it odd at the time that Windows didn't ask to replace the file. Anyway I started Sage, none of my recording or settings were there. I stopped it and thought that maybe Sage had 64-bit binaries also. No, but that is where I found the Wiz.bin and only the Wiz.bin.

</Front Story>

So I gotta ask...

Why is SageTV installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\SageTV but the Wiz.bin is in C:\Program Files\SageTV?

Is this just me or is that how it is? Maybe it's UAC causing a mess?

32bit programs that are installed (like SageTV) will be put in the C:\Program Files (x86) directory. 64bit programs will be put in the C:\Program Files directory. So you need to put the wiz.bin in the C:\Program Files (x86)\SageTV
SageTV directory and you should be fine. That's what I did when I moved from xp 32bit to W7 64bit and I never had any issues with the upgrade.

It sounds like you COPIED your properties file from your old install when you upgraded to 64 bit. This means that the program is installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\SageTV but Sage.properties expect Wiz.bin in C:\Program Files\SageTV. When it didn't find a Wiz.bin there it created a new one. So delete your properties file in C:\Program Files (x86)\SageTV and setup SageTV again. You could change the location by changing the property "wizard/db_file" but there maybe other properties that will cause problems from the old install.

DIBU that was the problem and the solution.

Pantera i changed the prop file and move wiz.bin and it worked.

Bob yes i did, I didn't realize/remember that the prop file defined where wiz.bin existed. I think that got added for Vista's UAC issues. IIRC, default UAC wouldn't let programs update data in C:\Program Files\*. So you either turned UAC off or I think you need to change the prop file to point to a location in your user "store".
