I've been experimenting with my client more lately (well, now that I have an actual internet connection), and I've found some pretty cool stuff. For netflix I now use WMC's version as you can actually launch WMC directly into netflix without any other navigation. Pretty sweet (better than boxee's anyway). I can close it with the "green button" which will also go back to sage. I've found that boxee's web radio (primarily pandora) is really nice. I'm considering putting all my music into boxee to see how well that works. Jriver is also something I'm playing with. I may make music launch jriver instead of sage. I would use phoenix, but I use too many other plugins phoenix doesn't support.

I think sage is alive and well for me. Maybe sharing my new found features may help someone who wants to do the same.

Be prepared to be disappointed in how Boxee handles music. They did a half-arsed job with the software/beta version and the box/firmware version saw no improvements and less features actually Last.fm also disappeared from the Boxee Box version and it doesn't seem likely it will ever re-appear.

Now that the Box is experimenting with AirPlay, I've pretty much settled on Spotify from my iPhone/iPad sent to the Boxee Box.

The Box also has tunein.com and grooveshark. (And I suspect Spotify will be on the Box proper before the end of year but that's just a gut feeling, nothing official)

Thanks. I've heard that, but wanted to see. I guess I won't mess with it. I think jriver will be the way to go. I'm going to have to see if I like it enough to pay for it though. I've got enough pay software, but with how awesome everyone seems to think jriver is I'm going to give it a try.

When Boxee was first released, I was originally excited about its prospects, but seeing how the project has progressed is disappointing. Even if it did support SageTV, unless the other aspects of it improve (Quality netflix support on the Boxee PC/Make, for example. What's there now is unusable for all but the blind.), I won't touch it again. That, and it has a rabid community that simply will not accept constructive criticism of the product -- nor do they even understand some of its short comings (blind leading the blind). Not a good thing if you actually want to see something improve.

Is the SageTV community dying? I think you'd being lying to yourself to say otherwise, but why does it matter? It'll still be around for as long as you need it.

I believe certain types of traffic are more affected than others. In my case, I was looking to switch from a cable setup to DirectTV, which would require a second HD PVR or Colossus and, of course, working with a whole new channel-changing setup. The Google acquisition happened just before I made the switch; and I decided that it would be best to leave my working setup just the way it is. While I am using 7.1, I never even made the upgrade to 7.19 RC or updated my HD300 to the latest beta for fear of messing something up. Yes, I image my SageTV server/client regularly and have even become so paranoid as to clone the main dirve so I can replace it on a moments notice.

I sense that it is this "upgrade/transitions" area of discussion that has diminished somewhat in the forum. Also, I believe that a lot of the frustration-type comments come from those that were caught in-between, i.e., where they had already invested a lot but had not finished their build-out and, now, have no way of finishing it. I sympathize with their pain, because if I lose either extender (I'm especially worried about my aging HD100), I'll be in the same boat.

So, I hope for a pleasant surprise from Google/SageTV; I monitor all posts of alternatives to SageTV/extenders/EPG just in case; and I talk nice to my current SageTV setup, hoping it'll carry me through until one of these alternatives is available.

I wrote this exact message (minus anything about the Google purchase) last year. It's just it's summer and people have a lot more to do with their time. Wait till the winter months and you will see activity jump again.

Except if you live in Central Florida and it's 97 degrees and 90% humidity from 10:30 AM to 6:00 PM in the summer and it's 70 degrees and 30% humidity in the winter

I was just thinking the same thing. I spent a few hours out working on the palm trees in my yard today... wish I could wait until winter! Can't really spend that much time outside at one time, if it isn't the beach, for another month or two.

I have sold off my sage system since I was still at HD100 and replaced it temporarily with something else. I will continue hanging around to see what comes next.

Chalk me up as one of those that has come to terms with things. It took way too long, and way too many posts that should have never seen the light of day, but now it's time to move on and give and get help, and make the final 7.1.9 as useful as possible for as long as possible.

That being said, I apologize for the vast majority of my "angry phase" posts. Sadly, I was probably one of those users alluded to by "self-inflicted" wounds post above.

Interested in trying Media Portal 1.2Beta as I have a spare box as well, where did you find the link to the download of the beta? I'm slow this morning and cannot find it anywhere.

Does it play nice with a HDHR?

I don't know, I use a couple Hauupage PVR-150-MCE cards which are only SD and pretty well supported by any software nowadays.

This link:

helped me get going easily.

Good luck!

Things do seem pretty slow. Sure, the forums always slow down in the summer, but it seems like this year its much slower than previous years. I'd be curious to see stats on posts/day from now, earlier this year and last summer. I bet we're way down compared to last year if you only look at the past month (after things settled down with the Google announcement).

Still, you have to expect that. There's no new SageTV versions/betas being released, breaking stuff. There aren't nearly as many threads on people creating new SageTV systems, for obvious reasons. It seems like most people are just going to hang on to their current systems until they won't run anymore.

So, other than add-ons like Phoenix, what SageTV-related stuff would you expect to see people discussing?

Everything is working great. Just got home from two weeks in the Maritimes to find a new Music update for Phoenix waiting Had my server system running stable (always has). Logged in from Phone7 and set a couple of recordings. Logged on at various hotels - wired and wireless with Placeshifter on my daughters Win7 Acer tablet and plugged in the MCE Remote and voila. Connected the HDMI cable (and adapted as neccessary for the TV) and audio.

My daughter fired it up a few times on WiFi when we were waiting at the airports, and it only dropped once that I am aware.

So no complaints.

Thanks. It's unfortunately all too common to see people behaving badly on the Internet, but very rare to see them owning up to it. Kudos for that.

You're welcome. I'm normally a much more civil person than depicted in those posts. It's actually almost scary to me how hard and long I fixated on the topic. 'Nuff said. Onward.

One of the reasons Sage has been successful is that many users feel so passionate about the product.

Color me passionate. I still love it, use it, look forward to it.

The boxee app has tempered anything google short circuited. I see a future still.

SageDCT support for the hauppauge cablecard tuner has me stoked and will suffice me for at least 2-3 years. I cannot say that about most other technology products in my house, so for that, i feel
happy
stable
satisfied.

To top that all off, i did a new install (finally to 7 off vista) this weekend, had an issue, and the forums assisted. Still. Instantly.

What more to ask for?

Dead?

I posted my first two messages in the last couple of weeks.
I had to have the moderator approve my postings.
