Is this community dying already?

Maybe it is just a summertime lull, but it seems to me that traffic is way down on this forum. Correct me if I am wrong but I don't think that anyone has released a new plugin in quite a while now. (Although there have been some upgrades to Phoenix I believe)

Many of the developers are now focussing on how to maintain the status quo in the future for stuff like EPG and/or using Boxee as a an extender. I really appreciate these efforts but it is kind of depressing that we aren't getting any new functionality and are unlikely to do so ever again.

Bummer man!

I just happened to be in a position where I had a spare box and I experimented with Media Portal 1.2Beta for a couple weeks and we have now switched over to it from Sage 7.1. Now to unload my one and only HD300.

We loved SageTV and it worked great but the buy out by Google left me feeling hung out to dry.

So far we are very plesaed with MP and have certainly appreciated all the effort by the group here.

I will continue to check out the forums from time to time though to see what's happening!

So was your move a strictly emotional one? What did you gain by switching to MP over what you had with sage?

I was bummed by the google announcement as well, but continuing to use sage and ad a colossus has made me happy. It doesn't take much effort to stay with sage.

The forums have slowed down, but it is summer. I know a few devs that are on a coding hiatus until fall so that may explain the lull.

Most likely just the summertime lull.

As several of the Dev Teams mentioned, the summer break was planned prior to the Google take over.

As far as new plugins. jusjoken has released (in July) and made many many enhancements/functionality to ADM (Another Dynamic Menu) http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56395 for me is excellent.

My 3 MUST HAVE plugins would be (in alphabetical order)
ADM
BMT
SJQ

4th would be Diamond.

I'm just starting to play with the External Program feature of ADM. Just my first run at it by putting Force EPG Update as a menu item has increased WAF significantly. Along with putting the most used Recordings View at Top Menu Level have been great here.

I didn't notice ADM - I will have to give it a try. Does it work alongside Diamond?

Well, I have updated my plugin/mobile apps since, but they were already at a stable point where not much else would have changed regardless...

I actually have a new free SageTV iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch application waiting on Apple's approval... Nothing fancy, just the remote control part of TiSageTV, for the cheap bastards that complained about the TiSageTV price...

Yes, jusjoken has made it work with Diamond and default.

Awesome as this should facilitate FAF for the wife and kids. Can I Set up a new Top Menu item called Kids that would have two selections - Kids TV and Kids Movies? Currently I have a structure of TV>Recordings>Kids Shows and Movies>Kids Movies that are each customized views in Diamond but it would be great if they could be put in the same main menu item.

There are positives and negatives with either system.

I simply didn't want to use software that has a high likelihood of being un-supported. We're still in "limbo" as to the future of SageTV but I was able to update to 7.1 and there have been updates to the plugins we were using.

Personally, I prefer the skins under MediaPortal. They have integrated the fanart better (for me) and overall I think I have less plugins but do the same stuff and to me it looks even nicer. I got a kick out of being introduced to last.fm and being able to load it through MP and have it act as my radio station/DJ. Follow.it is another interesting thing and I've never heard of "scrobble" before but it's used throughout MP. I love MP TV-Series plugin and the Moving Pictures plugin.

One thing that is different is SageTV runs faster than MP on the same equipment. That Zotac ION MAG net top box moves around slower than it did under SageTV but still does Mp4 and h.24 and mkv playback beautifully.

Oh, and the software is free :-) I can add clients however I like. Pretty hard to do with my existing SageTV setup since you can't buy clients or HD300's anymore.

Not being able to buy another HD300 was the final deciding factor to look at other solutions.

And I like to tinker, so MP is new and interesting but don't think for a second I have anything bad to say about our experience with SageTV. We really enjoyed using it and would have continued using it if not for this Google thang.

I'll admit that this forum is no longer the first thing I look at when I sit down at my computer in the morning. Not because of the Google buyout per se, but because of the endless hand-wringing, name-calling, and finger-pointing that followed. The kind of bile that's been spewed here is a real turnoff for me. So if the community is dying, it's largely from self-inflicted wounds in my opinion.

I do still use Sage and have no immediate plans to change.

Well, don't use a lot of the features of Diamond that really make it stand out in this household. Don't use the FanArt/Banners/Backgrounds, WAF prefers the plain/simple look. So she uses the Movie List Flow (without Fanart/Posters) but I'll sometimes use the Movie Wall Flow (with FanArt).
And the hiding of menu items has now been taken over by ADM.

Love Diamond and still use it, but it dropped out of the top 3 for this household when I found ADM.

I need/use SJQ/BMT for too much behind the "scenes" stuff I do for them to drop out.

So get out of your lawn chair and get back to work

Works GREAT with Diamond. Especially since jusjoken is part of Team Diamond, you wouldn't expect otherwise.

Also +1.

But things have been much better lately, angry people have either come to terms with things or just moved on.

(Also +1 on the summer vacation thing)

Yes. Very Simple.

And the latest feature added was Permission Security/Profiles.

So you could have the Default Profile be able to ONLY access the KIDS Menu and submenus. I haven't used it, but if I recall from the Wiki, with the different Profiles, you can allow/disallow even seeing different Menu items.

As mentioned, check out the wiki

I'm sure it'll become a favorite for you also.

Well perhaps the 1600+ Diamond downloads compared to the 70+ ADM downloads will keep you motivated and in the lawn chair but updating Diamond at the same time... multitasking at it's finest

I would have thought ADM would have caught on with more SageTV users but there is summer, Google and phoenix keeping everyone busy.

More ADM changes on the way too

+1 for staying with sage (and ADM has been great for menu mangement/clearnup)

last, but not least, there is NOTHING out there that I know of that duplicates SRE, my all-time favorite plugin.

at this point, i see no reason to go anywhere else.............no rush, no missing functionality that i care about..............we'll see how long that lasts
