USB-UIRT keeps dying

My UIRT stopped responding again today.
A reboot fixed the problem instantly. No program was able to use the
UIRT, but only STBkeepalive was logging errors. Please help!
winxpsp3
sagetv
probably 40 hrs since the last reboot

XP sp3.
When i tried using lrnhelper, sagetv and other things, the UIRT was
non responsive.
unplugging/replugging did not fix the problem. a system reboot fixed it instantly.

Here is some info:

from system console:

Mine is used as a receiver only, although i have used it as a blaster in the past. It will stop responding occasionally, and various measures may get it restarted (a reboot always will). I believe it is an EMI problem that is helped by either moving your cabling around or adding a ferrite ring from Radio Shack to filter out the EMI. You can search for info from others who have had similar problems. Hope this helps.

Have you tried using the USB-UIRT and LrnHelper on a different computer? If the USB-UIRT is flaky on another computer, then the USB-UIRT might be bad or going bad. I've thought before of ordering a spare USB-UIRT just in case mine goes bad in the future, but haven't yet.

My USB-UIRT is very stable and reliable. It takes some tweaking when switching from cable to different satellite providers, but it has always been very reliable.

I had an interesting problem (and solution) with a USB-UIRT about a year ago...shortly after I got it, I had a similar problem where STBKeepAlive and SageTV would not be able to use the USB-UIRT. The only other odd thing I noticed was the red LED on the USB-UIRT was stuck on when this would happen. It wasn't pulsing or flashing and didn't respond when pointing an IR remote at it. I picked up the USB-UIRT to look at it to see if maybe it was receiving a constant IR signal from somewhere. It didn't appear that was the case, but while looking at it, the LED turned off. Once the stuck red LED turned off it started working again...pointing an IR remote at it would cause the red LED to flash as it received the commands and STBKeepAlive and SageTV were able to send commands again. I thought it was just a fluke, but then it happened again. That's when I noticed the stuck red LED would go off simply by bumping or tapping the USB-UIRT case. Handling it some more, I noticed that squeezing or pushing on it just right would make the LED get stuck on again. Not sure if was something loose, a bad connection somewhere, or a short circuit, but removing the screw and pulling the case apart solved the problem. I never did look to see what might have been loose or shorting out, but it's been running open for over a year with no lockups and no other issues.

I'm confident that there isn't something wrong with the unit because unplugging/replugging it does not fix the issue -- only a reboot, which indicates that my software/system is getting into some kind of state that prevents it from working.

things were going so well... ugh.

I moved it to a different usb port and we're 24 hours in without a failure... perhaps it will last.
