Grouping DVDs?

Version 6.

I rip all my DVDs using DvdShrink's "Re-Author" mode.

Mostly, Main Movie has all I want.

But some discs - most Coen brothers' movies for example - have commentaries that I'd like to save without having to rip the whole DVD + menu structure (stern warnings, trailers, blatant advertisements, and so-forth).

To that end I browse the titles, find the one with the commentary I want to save, and Re-Author it to a separate "DVD".

Works.... but results in multiple listings under Media Center | Videos | DVDs.

e.g.
Code:
Out Of Africa - Commentary
Out Of Africa

O Brother Where Art Thou - Commentary1
O Brother Where Art Thou - Commentary2
O Brother Where Art Thou
Media Center | Videos | Folders and creating a parent folder for each multiple entry seems tb a logical alternative, but the listing is kind of busy - what with icons and "DVD: " prepended to titles...

Is there another strategy I can use to roll those multiple entries up into one line?

This may be more work that you want to do, but this is how I deal with it.

Personally, I user the 'Sage MyMovies' plugin and the 'Movies Collection Manager' to organize my DVDs. You have to put all your movies into the Collection Manager and then the 'Sage myMovies' plugin displays them in Sage. For movies that have multiple discs (or separate features, commentary, etc), the Collection manager lets you setup multiple 'discs' for the movie. In Sage, it appears as one movie, but when you select it, it gives you a popup that lets you select which 'Disc' to play. Since you can give custom names to each 'disc', you can call them whatever you like (such as 'Movie', 'Commentary 1', etc).

Like I said earlier, this may be more than you want to take on, but it works pretty well for me. If you don't like the default 'Movies' section of Sage then, the improved interface is just a bonus.

Is "Movies Collection Manager" a unique product name?
I think I've got it.

The parent product name is "MyMovies" and "Collection Mangement" is a related product.

Have I got it right that SageMyMovies is strictly for 7.0?

Also, I get beaucoups hits for both "Movies Collection Manager" and "Movie Collection Manager".

Is "Movies Collection Manager" a unique product name? Or do I need to qualify it?
Yes it is for v7. Why don't you just rip the movie with multiple audio streams? Or is there something I'm missing?

That one went right over my head.

My agenda is to be able to present my ripped/reauthored DVDs with one line per DVD.

e.g. If I rip "Out Of Africa" and wind up with two "DVDs": Main Movie, and Commentary, I want to see only one line in the UI: "Out Of Africa".

Sorry. In dvd shrink when you re-author a movie and choose the main movie it has all the audio streams where you pick compression and all the other options so you can pick and choose what you want to keep. If the commentary is an option while watching the move then you just keep it and use sage to switch between audio tracks. If the commentary is on a special feature or a documentary that is on the disc then you would have to have the two files.

Now it makes sense. Thanks.

BTW, if anybody is halfway serious about their movie collection, I have to recommend MyMovies. This thing looks to me like a movie enthusiast's wet dream.

No problem. Wait until you see the Sage My Movies interface for v7.

v7, MyMovies, and SageMyMovies are giving me fits on my "test" box.

Got myMovies Client/Server running on the "production" box though.

I am tempted to just go ahead and upgrade from Sage 6 to 7 on the production box - hoping SageMyMovies will install there.

But that would be predicated on my assumption that the SageMyMovies UI is somehow integrated into SageTV - i.e. accessible via an HD200 or SageTV Client.

True?

If so, can anybody point me to some screen snaps?

Sage v7 has a built-in 'Plug-ins' manager in the 'Settings' section. The 'Sage MyMovie' plugin can be downloaded within the GUI from there. The plugin manager is built into Sage v7 so, it is also accessible via HD extenders or the Client software.

There's an entire 'Sage MyMovies' section of the Sage forums under 'SageTV v7 Customizations'. It has links to wikis, screen caps and step-by-step walk thrus. If you have any problems, that's a good place to start. Most problems are fairly quickly answered there. Here's the link: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=48

My suggestion would be to work out your issues on your test box. Review the wiki for Sage My Movies and ask questions here in the forum before commiting to your production server. If you can't get it work correctly on your test it's not going to work on your production by magic.
