Duplicate Movies

Good morning!

I got into SageTV and MyMovies a little unprepared. I only had a 750GB drive in my SageTV server when I started. I've since bought a 2TB drive, but when I moved my movies folder to the new drive My Movies went all crazy and put in duplicate entries for every movie.

I went through a deleted all the duplicate movies, but some of them still appear in SMM, though when I go to play them one will work, one will not.

I've tried rebuilding the SMM database, and I've tried optimizing the My Movies database, and neither seemed to help.

I'm at the point where I just want to get into the SMM database and manually remove these entries, but I don't know if I have access and if that is the best approach anyway.

Can someone please provide some advice for my situation?

Also, in the near future I'm going to be getting a Drobo and moving all of my movies to that, so if someone could suggest a better way of managing the transfer so My Movies doesn't freak out again, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks!

It all depends on your settings.

If you are using folder monitoring it will fix itself

If not and you are just importing folders then you will have duplicates

I suggest deleting your mymovies databse in the collection manager and reimporting the new folders

Then of course you will need to rebuild the mymovies database.

Wow your fast!

I've tried both methods you suggested. I tried just letting folder monitoring do handle it, but that acted wierd...it only imported some of the movies.

I tried turning off folder monitoring, then importing the entire directory that stores my rips, but that created a ton of duplicates.

I'm thinking that I might have to just delete the My Movies database, and add folders one at a time to a monitored folder...

On another note, what do you suggest as the best way to rip Blu-Ray discs? I just got a BD drive and I'm trying to back up my library. I tried using My Movies to copy the disk, but it will only do Blu-Ray as an ISO. My Movies saw it fine, but it wouldn't play. And it doesn't show up in the regular videos section of SageTV. So I tried using the Burn to Hard Disk option of AnyDVD HD, but My Movies is seeing every .m2ts file as it's own movie and giving me an error about multiple movies in a single STREAM folder.

Thanks ahead of time for any help!

Owch, that sounds painful!

I'm not sure what you meant in your first post about "moving" your "mymovies" folder (there are many kinds, in several different places). But along the lines of your question, I've installed/ re-installed My Movies Collection Manager (CM) several times, and use the backup and restore database features within to "move" and backup my database as I continue to build it (I also retain the CM install files and corresponding .mmb's JIC of an unforseen need to revert).

Have you been through CM to see that your database of movies looks okay/ without duplicate? If you used some other means to re-install CM, you might want to try getting it setup as you like it, and then back it up to a .mmb file - anytime you need to re-install the CM app, this is how you import your collection (also make sure you're using the latest version of CM, which is presently 3.18 PR4). As Plucky mentioned, a change of the CM database itself must be followed by a SMM rebuild (via the SMM API config). If everything continues to look okay in CM and you've rebuilt the SMM database, and your still seeing wonky behavior, try re-installing SMM, but follow the directions here to delete old files before re-installing the plugin.

I don't use folder monitoring, but it sounds like maybe you need to get your existing collection working first.

Good luck!

Thanks for the input HTPCguy.

Just about everything is working the way I like...as far as the CM database is concerned, everything looks peachy. I did try to uninstall and re-install SMM, but I didn't follow any instructions and just removed it through the plug-in manager....I'll probably attempt to do it correctly when I migrate my collection to a more permanemt storage solution.

As far as my secondary question, I answered it myself. I just needed to be patient and wait for AnyDVD HD to finish copying the BD movie to the hard drive. Once it was done with that, CM saw the correct track and it works just fine on my HD-300. The STREAM movie was still listed in CM, but I just removed it from the database, and everything is hunky-dorey.
