Question Recording delay

So I am still running v6, but I hope I can still get some help until I switch over (need to convince the wife).

Lately some of the TV shows don't start recording on time. This has been particularly true on my wife's soap operas, but it provisionally happens to NCIS and last season of Chuck.

Certain episodes will start a couple seconds late missing the opening scene before the opening credits. Last week, one of the soaps missed like the first 10 minutes of the show.

They are favorites and all episodes record. For the soaps they are all on one channel and one after the other, but that does not explain the 10 minute delay. Even shows that are one after the other may only miss a split second between shows, but not enough to miss the entire opening scenes (which is usually about 2 minutes.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance...again...

Solution??

So, here's a little more to add to it. The sitcom, "The Middle" was also missing the first 5 minutes. So I decided to record 5 minutes before the show started.

Well, I got the 5 minutes before the show started, and then it skipped the first 5 minutes of the show and then was fine for the remaining 25 minutes.

I bought Sage7 and it seems to be working. man, that is weird. What in the world was going on?

Guess it does not matter now.

here we go again

So no one answered this thread. I thought the problem would have been solved by upgrading to v7. Well it is not!!!

NCIS and some of my wife's soaps start about 5 minutes late. Usually around 5:05 minutes.

Does anyone have any idea why the show would start recording 5 minutes late.

There are no conflicts and (for NCIS) no shows recording right before it.

Please read the above for all that is going on. Thanks in advance for your help.

Do you have any system messages regarding those recordings? It sounds like there is problems getting the recording started, and it continues to try over and over. What is showing in the timeline during the missing period? If it red, then this does sound like it is simply having a problem tuning/recording.

The errors say,
"Warning - Halt Detected in Recording
The device input 'Hauppauge WinTV 418 TS Capture Digital TV Tuner' stopped producing data while recording "Undercovers" on KNSDDT on physical channel 40-39-1. SateTV will try to reset the device. This mayb e cause by a channel that is no longer available."

It seems to happen on all channels
In every case it happens 5 minutes after the show starts
It only seems to happen on one of the two Hauppauge 1600 tuners in the comptuer.
The computer is the HTPC, so it is not a server

During the time line the time that is not recorded is red. These channels have pretty strong signals. It happens randomly so we have not been able to catch it and this is espeically tough since we don't watch live TV. While it happens randomly, it always seems to be 5:05 of show that we miss; although the above show appears to not have recorded at all.

Have you tried going into Video Devices and rescan the channels on your tuner?

If it is always occurring on one of the tuners and they are fed from the same source, it sounds like you have a bad cable, bad splitter, or bad tuner. Even in dual tuner cards, it is possible to have one of the tuners die. I have an Avermedia card where tuner 1 works perfectly and tuner 2 throws halts like there is no tomorrow. Before I tracked it down it got to a point where there would be 5+ segments in a 1 hour recording.

No, I don't believe I have.

Spectrum, as I wrote my last reply I was looking at the messages and saw that it seems to be only one tuner. But as I said, it ONLY happens at the beginning of shows and from what I have seen is that is it always 5:05, except for that last undercovers show that looks to not have recorded at all.

I wish I had time to debug this but family is so hectic. I think I might try to figure out which tuner it is and pull it out; thus making tuner #2 the #1 tuner, then reinstall the other tuner. If the problem follows that tuner then I know that is it. Maybe before that I will swap outputs from the splitter. Between the antenna and the tuners, I have a good 4x splitter, due to the number of TV, I also have a 2x splitter after the 4x splitter going to the PC, but I still get good signal strength on all channels.

It seems to be only on tuner #1 and from what I have seen mostly on channel 8-1, KFMB, CBS. I just looked through most of my NCIS episodes and I think all started late. Sometimes 1:04, sometimes 5:04. I also had some of The Middle delayed by about a minute and that is on channel 10.

Last night we could not watch the Chargers beat up the Broncos but I was able to watch it through the TV's HD tuner. To test the tuners, I stopped recording it on tuner 1, tuned in another show, and then tuned in the game on tuner #2. It did not get any better.

I'm doing a scan of all channels. Just for grins I checked the signal strength and...channel on tuner 1 was at about 50%. Man...bad card.

Wait, what if I switch the cables from the splitter. Oh...you won't believe it. The coax connectors were a little loose. When I screwed them on completely the signal strength went to 100%.

It must have happened a few months ago when I moved the whole entertainment center to install the new TV. I had to make some slight modifications to the entertainment center and I cleaned up the wiring so it wasn't such a rat's nest. I must not have tightened them all the way.

Well, I will clear out the error messages and see what happens. Unbelievable.

<said in a high pitch, winey, antagonistic voice>I had a perfect reception from View-13 </>

<grumbles to himself>Perfect reception...I'll show Fuzzy a reception... </>

I was at View 44 for the Arizona game early in the season.

Anyway, no issues so far...my wife's soaps had no problems, but they are on channel 10. Hopefully Merry Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda Holiay Special will record OK. Will supply one more update with more results.

Had two issues since last post. The Grinch that stole Christmas and Chase. The Grinch started 5:04 late. It always seems to be the same amout of time.

what about that setting to always tune first? Would enabling/disabling it help? I tried to find it but couldn't seem to locate it. If it will help where do I find it?
