Play Bin/Cue and Recording ? and Delay ?

I just installed sage and I am very impressed.. Before I pay for it, I want to see if a few things are possible

1. I have a lot of movies in Bin/Cue format, however they do not show up when I click on play a file.. How can I play these?

2. When I am watching TV and hit the record button, I guess it starts recording. When I hit stop it prompts me to cancel the recording. It acts as though it records the entire show, or nothing at all. I want to be able to use the record button like a vcr. Record and Stop then watch. Can I do this? For example can I be watching a tv show, hit record, then 2 minutes later hit stop and save off the 2 minutes I recorded?

3. Delay - I have my dishnetwork receiver plugged into my hauppauge 150. There is about a 5 second delay when watching tv. For example if I use my dish net remote to change the channels, 5 seconds later it changes. Is there any way to configure the buffer delay? I could care less about pausing live tv, so I really dont need a buffer. I know there is a huge delay as my dishnet is plugged into my stereo, so even just watching tv, what I see on TV is seconds behind the audio on my stereo.. I know I can just use the audio on my computer to synch the audio/video (thats what I am doing now) but it doesnt help the laggy channel changing

Please help! If I can get all this to work I will buy it!!!

1. You will have to convert them to a video format that Sage can play. Another option would be a Virtual DVD like Daemon Tools.

2. Sage records everything, all the time. It then deletes it when the show is over. This is what allows for pausing live TV or rewinding for something you missed because the phone rang, etc. So, what happens, if are watching it, it's recording it. I am not sure how to save just 2 min as in your example. Someone else will pipe in.

3. This is a side effect of #2. Sage is not designed to use the audio from before it with the video from after it. As you notice, there is a delay due to the recording function. The answer, as you discovered, is to use the audio from Sage.

As much as this may sound bad on this forum, it sounds like Sage may not be the right product for you. Sounds like you would be better served by more "VCR like" software instead of one primarily aimed at timeshifting.

2. I believe there's a third-party add-on that does something like this, but I don't know the details. Check the Downloads section of the forum.

3. If you want instantaneous channel changing, and you don't care about pausing, why pipe it through Sage at all? Fork the output of your Dish receiver and send one branch to Sage and the other directly to a secondary input on your TV. To watch live TV, choose the direct input and use your Dish remote to change channels. To watch recorded TV, choose the Sage input and use your Sage remote. (Just don't try to watch live TV while Sage is recording something.)

On the other hand, if you're going to do all your viewing through Sage, live as well as recorded, then you shouldn't be using the Dish remote at all. Put that in a drawer and let Sage handle the channel changing on your Dish box.

#2: multi function stop plugin (see my footer) -- the stop button lists things like 'stop playback' and 'stop recording, keep partial file'.

you can also do this with the REC button with my plugin, but you need to enable 'show advanced options for record' and then the record button will pop up a menu with 'cancel record' or 'stop recording/delete partial file'.

and finally for BIN/CUE disk images, try the ISO image mounting plugin

Wow ! Thats the response I was looking for Thanks!

One problem though. I installed your plugin and get the option to stop and keep the partial, however when I select it I get kicked back to the main menu. If I click on watch Live TV, It sends me back to the menu. THe only way to watch tv is to go into sage tv recordings and delete the entry there. Kind of defeats the purpose tho

I just did a clean install of sage from the website. Any help is greatly appreciated. It looks like what I want, I just need to figure out what I am doing wrong

thanks!

Thats normal, you cannot stop recording liveTV unless you also stop playback.

Wierd. Strictly speaking, this is not actually a problem with my plugin -- you can reproduce this in the standard STV. If you have recorded a program with negative padding, then Sage will refuse to record any more of the program...

I have a workaround though
Set the 'Archived' flag on the file segement you recorded,
Record Options->'Cancel this recording' (or remove manual recording status).
Now liveTV should work again...
