Do you need an IR Emitter with the USB-IRT

Just got my USB-IRT. Quick question, do you need an external IR emitter or can you use the one built in? I'll be sending commands to it via a a remote (hauppauge 45) and it send commands to my cable box (Samsung SMT-H3090).

If I do need an external. It appears this is simple to build right? Just need a 1/8"mono plug, some wire, and a IR LED emitter from Radioshack? Does it matter which side gets soldered where?

Thanks

Just use the built-in one.

Great, thanks, I'll start off with that. It is possible I'll be placing the USB-IR somewhere where it won't be within line of site of my cable box, so I tihnk I'm still going to build the blaster.

If you want to control three set top boxes in the future, Shadeblue posted two great diagrams. If the set top boxes have multichannel IR configuration, you can control more boxes than you'll ever want to rent!
