IR emitter in USB-UIRT

The LED blaster in my USB-UIRT seems to be dying. If I hold it up to the cable box it will still change the channel most of the time but not at all if it is more than an inch away. Both of the wired emitters still work fine.

I am wondering if I can remove the LED and solder a mono jack in it's place and then use another wired emitter. Is the same LED used for both transmitting and recieving? If so then I won't be able to use it as a receiver anymore but that's OK since I got an HD200 and an XBox (for DVD playing).

P.S. - I've always wished that Jon would just make one with 3 mono jacks instead of the current stereo jack + LED blaster

The jack on the back of the USB-UIRT is for emitter only so you can use another emitter head to replace your failing one.

Edit: I just realized you may be talking about the front emitter and I'm not sure about that one but if you are using zones with the front as zone 3 then it should work.

Yes, I'm talking about the front blaster. It is zone3. Zones 1 & 2 are wired emitters and work OK.

To replace the front blaster I would have to unsolder the LED and solder a mono jack in its place. Electrically, it should work, I'm just checking to make sure I didn't miss some gotcha. I haven't looked to see if and where the mono jack could be placed physically.
