Until two weeks ago my Sage server setup was stable and unchanged since I bought an HD100 in the 1st batch. Before that (v.2 through v.5 over the years) it was good but had frequent issues playing 1080 on the underpowered machine it was on. Two weeks ago I got rid of the aging server it was running on and virtualized it, bumped it to 4 tuners, added more storage and there hasn't been a peep of trouble out of it. Now it has very low CPU usage, clients are way more responsive. We're quite happy here.

I don't fiddle with my sage setup.

I think the second item here is the next step, though I'm not sure the hardware part will be made by Sage. They are releasing the server-on-a-stick, which should work well on pretty much any hardware, so I'd expect some of the HTPC companies to build bare-minimum sytems to run it.

My own personal sage box now is used only as a media server and I use the PS3 to play the videos now to the HDTV.
Sorry to hear that, but have you sought help for these issues on the forums?

Stanger hit the nail on the head for me.

I cannot leave well enough alone, so i fiddle. no new betas = no fiddling = longer uptimes. if i didnt touch it, it would be up for months and probably over a year (UPS has worked very well so far - no brown out down time)

Oh, and so to finish...

rather than being in heaven, my trigger finger is getting itchy. I am debating a full OS install just "because".....

I think it's a common ailment for those of us here

For me it's almost the other way around. If there are new betas with new features and stuff, I'll install them, and more often than not, in true Sage fashion the beta's are fine and I've got no issues.

For me the problems seem to start when there aren't contsant beta updates. I get restless, and I start looking for things to "improve". Hm, newer HD PVR drivers than the ones I've got that are working fine, I should try them.... etc.

Without a steady infusion of Sage betas and updates, I go into withdrawal and start messing with things best left unmessed.

So Sage, for the sake of those of us addicted to updates, how's about getting that next beta cycle going before we break something important!

It is about time. Since we don't want to start pondering if Sage is going to go all BTV on us and come up with a new business model?

I know one thing, those of you not anxious to get the next beta dont use the You Tube search feature on ANY version of sageTV (extender or not).

http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43708

I already reported this bug to them a while back. This is interfering with the new sageMC online movie trailer search from being released when someone looks up a movie via IMDB lookup.

Stanger89: I'm curious, what bug(s) is hold you back on the Extender version?

I haven't messed around with my Sage setup because (a) I've been really busy (b) I've wanted max uptime. Unless I'm installing windows updates or updating to a new version/configuration of Sage I haven't touched it. I generally don't upgrade until a new version had been out for quite a while.

That being said... Now that virtualization performance is up to the task (i.e. 5500's) I expect to tinker with a copy of my sage environment and gradually move things into the production environment. It was impossible to tinker with things before since I didn't have another system around to test components Sage with.

I'm running the latest extender firmware, did I say I wasn't?

I'm not running the latest HD PVR drivers because they lock up the HD PVR several times a day.

Oh okay, I was just skimming through this thread before, and "thought" there was something wrong with the latest firmware.

When WAF is low it doesn't matter whose fault it REALLY is. If she loves you, it's always THEIR fault!!!

First there were plugins for CC/subtitle support, then Sage supported it natively. If they continue in that tradition, I look forward to native UPnP support for PlayOn.

I'd almost want bidirectional UPnP... I'd want sage clients/extenders to be able to playback UPnP sources (PlayOn), but ALSO I think it would make sense to sage's recordings/library to be available to other UPnP Devices (browse the recordings like a tree in UPnP)

Fuzzy,

Nail on the head. Sage as UPnP playback and source device.

Makes Sage super friendly, open and extensible.

UPnP / DLNA

I agree 100%, UPnP / DLNA support is really a point to be considered in the next releases.

Got to be a UI upgrade. Windows 7 is out October 22, cable card is soon to follow for DIYers (no longer OEM). HD-PVR support from third party. MPEG-4 playback on XBox 360 as extender with full fidelity UI. If Sage doesn't want to lose customers, they need to get a new, competitive UI rolled into Sage 7.0 and get it released quick.

WMC extender(s) are missing a lot more than that.
