LM remote channel change problem after installing upgrade

Oh my GOD here we go again. this is what I was afraid off. As I mentioned previously, I was running sage as a service with no problem (including changing channels from LM Remote/MCE Blaster through an HD-200.) The only issue was the youtube\google problem. The version that was running about 30 minutes ago was SageTV version 6.5.9.204. Because of the youtube/google malfunction within this version, I was forced to upgrade to version 6.6.2.218 to regain that youtube/google functionality. I removed the previous sagetv from add/remove programs, rebooted, re-installed the new updated version (as the administrator, with permissions to anyone who uses this computer), and all hell broke loose! Everything works but changing channels! That was working 30 minutes ago! Sagetv/common folder has full rights to everyone. Please help. This is very frustating since this setup was working flawlessly and now it don't. From the LM remote app, I can see my blaster selected but it is grayed out. I am log to the server as the administrator, so is the sagetv service. any hint? Please advice.

There is no need to uninstall SageTV before installing a new version - this is covered in chapter 2 of the PDF manual. Installing over the top of the current version is the easiest way to make sure it installs the new version in the same place. Are you sure you installed the new version to the same location? If not, then that is your issue. If you did, then it sounds like you need help with the LM remote program.

I did install sage to it's original directory. I spend quite sometime with Stephane T/S LM remote. What's weird is that when I downgraded to 6.5 it just worked (tried the 6 beta and got this problem before). I had to upgrade to 6.6 (because of teh youtube/google issue) and this issue happened! From the LM remote app, I can issue the change channel command and will change the channel on the STB! but from Sage, I change the channel, the screen freezes momentarely like it is going to change the channel but stay on the same channel. It looks like Sage stopped talking to the LM remote plugin. I see a similar problem post of someone that upgraded to 6.6 using USB-UIRT but I seen no solution to that problem yet. Where in Sage tv can I find a log that might indicate what is the problem with my setup? All I did was upgrade the software!

I am new to the SageTV community and using ver. 6.6.2.218 with the same problem. LM Remote changes the channels within its set-up application, but SageTV is not utilizing the Blaster. Any suggestions? Should I downgrade? Thanks.

zimmrmn,

Do not downgrade yet. I got an email from Sage support. They suggest to do this:

Go to your control panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Look for the SageTV service and double click on it to configure it. Go to the "Log On" tab and check the box to "Allow service to interact with desktop".

I am not at home now; if you are, can you try it and post results? I am still working with Stephane on this issue. Once I got something, I will post it here. By the way, are you running Sage as a service?

After doing what SageTV support suggested and uploaded a new LM remote tuner plug-in provided by Stephane, I was still unable to change channels under SageTV version 6.6 I downloaded 6.5.9, installed it on the server, loaded SageTV, fired up the HD200, and issued a change channel request from within SageMC STV and guess what? Success! The change channel functionality via LM Remote tuner plug-in was back. I did nothing special other than downgrading from 6.6 to 6.5.9! With this in mind, I believe version 6.6 has a bug in the way it interacts with LM remote. I repeat, I did nothing special, just downgrade the server to 6.5.9 The issue now: I gained channel changing capabilities but lost youtube/google functionality. Is there's a way that I can upload the STV update that fixed the youtube\google problem to 6.5.9? Your help is apreciated.

Thank you for the update. I discovered that going to full screen mode somehow corrected the LM Remote IR blaster issue - it now changes channels. You may want to give that a try. When I when back into window mode, it continued to work. I haven't tested a planned recording yet.

Just a follow up. For me the LM RKM channel change plug-in is working with SageTV 6.6 (either service mode or not, fullscreen or not). My test config. is a Windows 7 32bits PC.

The issue with lfilomeno setup seem very strange because when he upgrade to 6.6, the plugin even stops writing log file, so I cannot troubleshoot the issue (starting with version 5.2 of LM RKM, you can enable debug logging for the plugin by creating a C:\Temp directory, the plugin will write here a RKMSagePluginLog.txt)

To SageTV: the plug-in doesn't need to interact with desktop. The plug-in itself is very simple. When SageTV call the "LoadRemotes" function, the plug-in load the .ir file, read an ID inside it and stores it in memory. When SageTV call the "MacroTune" function, the plug-in creates a COM object, and forward to it the channel number and the ID retrieved with "LoadRemotes" and that's it. Both "LoadRemotes" and "MacroTune" are producing log entries (to see if the .ir file can be loaded, and the COM object can be created). For lfilomeno, no logs are produced at all...

The plug-in dll is a simple Unicode MFC C++ dll (MFC statically linked)

My setup runs on windows XP SP3. I sincerely do not know what is the issue. I have looked at every imaginable security paramenter within windows XP (including local security policies) and have troubleshoot extensively LM remote with the help of Stephane (by the way, excellent customer support) I was very happy with SageTV but now I (well the kids) are unable to watch video from youtube\google bacause I can't upgrade! Low blow. If it is up to me, I rather have the channel changing capabilities vs. online video access but since DEC 2008, all our entertainment runs out of the SageTV server. The Wife was reluctant fro me to do the switch but once I got the extenders and the server going, she liked the versatility of a media center setup (Not to mention that she could record her Dr. G. episoed by simply selecting "record series"!) Yesterday she told me "So , you are paying fro a software that does not work? Remember, she is not technology inclined; she just see me troubleshhoting the system for quite some time and at teh end, I am back on square one! I know the kids can watch videos from youtube\google on my laptop but I took advantage of the SageTV capabilities of integrating it's parental control schema with online video access! Also, it is great to see videos on the 51" LCD screen vs. the 21 inch Laptop LCD! There has to be a way of fixing the online video access issue on v. 6.5.0 without upgrading to 6.6! I have become a true evangelist for SageTV and have take people to the house to see and experience the SageTV way which they like! Keep me in the SageTV domain; tell me there is a solution for 6.5.9!

So here I am with a paid for version of SageTV that has no online video functionality! I can't upgrade because my LM remote tuner plugin will not issue a change channel command in 6.6! HEEEELP!

Have you tried some of the 6.5 betas to see which one started having the problem with the LM remote and which one fixed the online videos? Both pieces of information might help resolve the issues and if the videos are fixed in a beta before LM remote then you would have a version to use while the other issues are being dealt with.

6.5.9 is the last of the betas on that series that let me use the LM remote tunner plugin properly. The 6.6 series fix the online videos issues but cripples the LM remote tuner plug-in functionality. Sad day for the SageTV setup at the house.

You'll need to contact me about this (use the LM RKM taskbar notification and choose "Send Logs to support")

Regards,
Stéphane.
