Intermittent channel change problem

I've had Sagetv working for a long time and suddenly it seems I'm having trouble changing channels. I can't think of anything in particular that might have changed in my setup. If I reboot the server machine, channel changing works again.

I have 4 tuners. 2 are an HDHomerun. The HDhomerun always works. THe other 2 tuners are hauppage capture cards and the cable boxes are controlled via a USB-UIRT. When all is working, if I change channels (live or for a recorded show), you see the channel numbers being typed in and the channel bar appear at the bottom as the new channel is selected. Typically if I reboot the machine and then try it, it works. But within some period of time, I'm not sure how long but later in the day, I'll find that when I try to change to a non-HDhomerun channel, nothing happens. The same channel just stays on the screen. For recorded shows, the wrong channel gets recorded.

I tried upgrading to the 6.3.1 beta just to see if that might fix the problem but it made no difference. The channel changing just stops working after some time.

Any thoughts?

You can try reading this post, Favorites not recording correctly as it deals with a similar problem...

... but this sounds like either a software (memory leak?) or a hardware (power leak?) problem, as you describe it working for a while then not.

What happens if you exit SageTV and restart? Does the problem persist or does it correct?
How many channel changes till it stops working? LiveTV using UP/DOWN and Direct Channel jumps?

Have you tried reinstalling the IR software?

Do you have any other software that talks to COM ports that might interrupt availability (Palm Desktop, PDAs)?

Thanks for responding Conejo.... I'm still having this problem. It only seems to go away when I restart the server. If I just close Sage on the server and re-start it, the problem persists (I can't change channels on the Hauppauge tuners vis USB-UIRT but changing channels on HDHomerun works fine). I tried re-installing the USB-UIRT drivers but that made no difference.

This is very frustrating problem as it seems to work for a while and then a couple of hours later it stops working. Its really damaging my WAF!

I've had Sage working for a couple of years so what caused this is beyond me.

Has anything changed recently?
Are you doing MS Updates (manually or automatically)
JAVA updates (though this isn't a java app)

It's ODD that this sounds like it's just now started being problematic after working without issue for so long.

It may be that the UIRT application is crashing or the hardware is failing (though that doesn't seem right).

Have you tried another USB port?

I was browsing the UBS-UIRT forum and found this thread:

It discusses electrical interferece on external emitters attached to the USB-UIRT that can cause the device to hang. It occurred to me that I did move some things around in my server room last week. Some cables got moved around. This morning when I was having hte problem again, I disconnected the usb-uirt and re-routed all the cables away from other cables.. The USB-UIRT woke up and is working now without a re-boot. We'll see if this fixes the problem.
