deccheck doesn't show nvidia decoder

OK, I must be missing something. I'm new to this so please be patient.

I have an Nvidia FX 5200 graphics card in a Windows XP sp3 box and I've reloaded the Nvidia drivers several times but I don't see any Nvidia decoders listed when I run deccheck. The specs claim:

"DVD and HDTV-ready MPEG-2 decoding up to 1920×1080i resolutions"

So where are they? I do notice if I pick "hardware acceleration" in the SageTV setup that my CPU load goes down so it must be using the hardware somehow.

On top of just having the NVIDIA card you also need the NVIDIA PureVideo codecs:

The graphics drivers have nothing to do with decoders. See Clift's link.

Thanks. That did the trick.

I think it's pretty misleading when the box says the graphics card features the encoder but the only way to use it is to buy more software. Oh well, I'll keep that in mind next time I'm in the market for a graphics card.

Actually, you could have watched regular TV with the built-in Sage codec (or FFDSHOW) for free. The MPAA required a third party codec to decrypt CSS on DVD's. Vista & 7 make this a moot point with built in CSS MPEG2 decoders. I wouldn't be too hard on NV, 'cuz an ATI card from that time frame would have said the same thing (and also required a purchase). Also, if you have a copy of any DVD software (WinDVD being the most likely) lying around, install it and you should be able to use the codec...I hate to see people buying CSS decoders in this day and age.
