Linux SMB paths

Quote:
1. Added support for Windows clients playing back DVDs from a Linux/Mac servers as long as the server used SMB paths to import them
How should this be specified on the linux side?

I tried

Quote:
seeker/archive_directory=smb\:\\\\pompei\\dvd,1;
but it does not seem to work.

I also tried

Quote:
smb://pompei/dvd
through the windows client but it said invalid directory.

I get alot of this

Quote:

Don't try to edit the properties file by hand; just go into Detailed Setup->General and set the library import folders there. If you go up to the root, there's a 'Network' option which is how you get to the SMB browsing. Then it should work.

Thanks!

I made the change through the windows client to \\server\dvd, but I am still getting the java.io.EOFException.

When I try to play the dvd I get a funny error:

Quote:
Error (-4): Cannot view program because it is over and was not recorded
Note that this Linux server does not have any sources setup, but the UNC path is the same path that I have my windows Sage server pointed too (that works).

there must be something wrong server side I have my entire dvd and music library on linux server and I can see them just as easy as windows shares make sure you can see them from network places in windows first if that doesn't work there may be a deeper issue

I see this in the SMB log

Quote:
[2008/08/04 23:37:26, 2] auth/auth.c:check_ntlm_password(319)
check_ntlm_password: Authentication for user [GUEST] -> [mduckett] FAILED with error NT_STATUS_WRONG_PASSWORD
[2008/08/04 23:37:26, 3] smbd/error.c:error_packet_set(106)
error packet at smbd/sesssetup.c(1498) cmd=115 (SMBsesssetupX) NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
I suspect this is the issue.

I know the windows Sage server uses GUEST to communicate with Samba, using "force user" solves this issue and makes
the share available.

Is the Linux sage server connecting with GUEST also? If so what is the difference that would make it work from windows and not linux?

EDIT

Why o why is jCIFS ignoring the fact that the share is configured to be Guest ok / guest only? It should not try to perform password validation.

Is it possible to set the userid / password jcifs properties with windows?

This is a Samba 3.0.28a on linux.

It has dawned on me that the client issue is secondary. The primary issue is by using UNC paths for the import directories the linux server does not *import* anything.

Sage.properties contains this line:

Quote:
seeker/archive_directory=\\\\POMPEI\\dvd2,1;\\\\POMPEI\\photos,4;
This was set using the PC client UI.

This is the server log:

Quote:
Wed 8/6 1:33:05.909 Seeker is starting the library import scan...
Wed 8/6 1:33:05.910 Seeker has finished the library import scan.
It also appears that the PC UI can not remove the UNC path once it was set. Also if I click on "music" it creates a new directory and the Sage.properties now looks like this:

Quote:
seeker/archive_directory=\\\\POMPEI\\dvd2,1;\\\\POMPEI\\photos,4;/POMPEI/photos,2;
This new directory I can remove through the UI, but Sage still imports nothing. It is interesting that the file separators have flipped....

I am having trouble with this as well.

My Setup consists of 3 computers: a Vista client, a linux SagetTV server, and a Windows 2003 media storage server

I've specified UNC paths using my Vista SageTV client by utilizing the 'Network' option as discussed. These paths, however, are not being successfully scanned for media. When specifying the media folders from within the client I can navigate the shares perfectly but no items ever show up in my Media Center.

I haven't found any errors in the sagetv_0.log that would explain this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Additionally, I'm experiencing the same bug as MrD that UNC media paths added using the SageTV UI can not be removed using the SageTV UI. If you want to get rid of a path you have to stop the SageTV service, manually edit the sage.properties file, and then restart the service.

I submitted a bug on this, and they have acknowledged the issue. I was informed that it was on the queue to be looked at.

You may want to submit a bug report as well.

Personally, I will not be able to use the Linux server until this issue is addressed.

If your clients run Vista, you can still use the Linux server. You can use symbolic links on Vista.

If you use the Placeshifter client you can work around this problem. This bug only occurs when using the Windows fat client (SageTVClient).

Does this imply SMB paths work on the Linux Server? If that is true then it should be possible to configure the properties file with a SMB path and have the Sage server import the media files.

I would love to know how to configure media import properties by hand. So far I have not been able to configure this by hand.

If one if required to use a UNIX path to import media, this seems to exclude NAS servers that only export SMB shares or the Linux server is forced to use NFS shares.

I use a smb share on a nas device to host imported media. I simply mount the share to a local directory on the linux server

The directory is a subdirectory of my smb export point for the linux server which is where I created a symlink in Vista from my client.

/var/media - SMB export
/var/media/lacie - Cifs mounted share from NAS

Import paths are managed at the server via placeshifter. On Vista clients c:\var\media is symlinked to \\sagetv-server\media. Everything works as it should (DVD, comskip, etc.) The only drawback? is that Vista is required. XP doesn't support symlinking.

Windows Updates
1. Added support for Windows clients playing back DVDs from a Linux/Mac servers as long as the server used SMB paths to import them
2. Updated taskbar icon tooltip on SageTVClient so that it shows what the server is currently recording
I understand that this can work with UNIX paths. I have client licenses not placeshifter licenses.

Does the SMB import on Linux work?

As far as I can tell, no.

Are there any intentions to have the Mac fat client have file access to a windows based server using smb paths?

I have a windows fileserver that runs my sage server and I export the sage recording directory over cifs. When I run the Mac fat client, I need to have it get access to the exported recording directory to have access to the edl files. I also use HD extenders and PC placeshifters as well.

any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Greg

Can't set import path to Samba server

My main desktop is a Vista Home Premium machine, Server is a Linux server with shares set up via Samba. I've mapped the Samba shares to drive letters which Sage doesn't seem to recognize.

When specifying the network share directly Sage doesn't seem to recognize it either. So, how can one use Samba drives to import media stored on a Samba server?

You'd think this would be easy, and quite a typical request, no?

I've researched this problem for a day now, and I fear I am too stupid to figure it out. How does one define an import path in SageTV on a Vista machine so as to access media stored on a samba server drive?

If anyone has any advice, I would appreciate being rescued from feeling stupid. Surely there are smarter people out there who figured out how to access media stored on a samba server?

Linux Server SMB paths are currently broken using a Windows Client
