Linux version install errors
I have set up the linux client...
email thread to sage... Ryan, Unfortunately there are no returns after the key has been activated and you will need to activate it to use it. We also don't switch them to Windows versions. Your best bet is to try the trial on a Windows machine and see if you like that. There also isn't a trial for the Linux version. Thanks, George XXX SageTV, LLC orders@sagetv.com http://www.sagetv.com/ -----Original Message----- From: Ryan [mailto:ryan@theschellenbergs.com] Sent: Thursday, August 03, 2006 8:06 AM To: orders@sagetv.com Subject: linux oem order I am interested in setting up a linux sage tv box. I have a windows one running upstairs, adnit is great. the linux is a p4, 1.7 with 512 megs of ram, and an 80 gig hdd... I am concerned that the linux version won't be as compatible with the wife as the windows version, adn I am having trouble locating the details for the return policy... If I am dis-satisfied with the linux version of the product can it be returned? or switch it to the windows version? ----end email--- and decided that I'd give it a go. so far, the install selected nvidia drivers, and my x windows session kept crapping out. I changed it to vesa just to get me into x, and then I have to go in and change the mouse from /dev/mouse to /dev/input/mouse0 then, things started working nicely... except that I don't get any video. I get a cryptic error - there was a playback error in playback details sage.playbackexception so I tried a reboot to see if that'd fix it, and now I am getting java exception errors and x won't start again... I am eager to get this going... I have a licensed windows box upstairs, and figured that the 100 dollars would be worth it (again) to have it in linux, but this is turening out to be a big headache... hardware for those interested... p4-1.7 512 megs ram hauppage pvr 150 gentoo install place shifter active... no other hardware seems important... or maybe it is, and I havn't picked up on something... any ideas? |

Oh. Does anyone know if I just reinstall gentoo or re-run the sage scripts will the activation key still work?

You can reactivate your system without problems.
What is your video card? You need a video card that supports video overlay and the vesa driver won't provide that. _Demo_ |

Looks like that might do it...
I selected the i810 drivers, and without any more tweaking, I can see the video capture starting to blink through... It is no where near usable, but I am at least on the right track. I'll post the xorg.conf when I get it settled... thanks for the hint. Last edited by rschellenberg; 08-06-2006 at 09:18 PM. |
