Tuner problems after standby

Hi all
I've encountered a problem when putting my pc into standby.
All goes well when it comes to waking the PC for a recording. 2 minutes before it's scheduled to record, the PC kicks in ready, but the capture cards don't seem to wake with the rest of the PC. I just get a message regarding a problem with the capture cards, and this persists even if I try to manually tune into any channel. The only way I can find to get them working again is to perform a full reboot.
I figured this might be a common setting problem, but a search of the forum hasn't thrown up any ideas.
Does anyone know where I'm going wrong?

The tuner is a Hauppauge Nova-T-500 PCI (Twin dvb-t)
SageTV V6.3, Windows XP Home SP2, and the latest Java

Thanks in advance

Does it work if you restart sage, as opposed to rebooting the pc?

If so, and you use Sage as a service, you could try this script - I dont know who wrote it, I couldn't find the original thread it came from.

It stops and starts the sage service when it comes out of standby.

Rename the file extension to .vbs and put it in your startup folder. I added the VNC lines as that wouldnt work after coming out of standby either. You can remove those if you like.

After 15 resumes, it reboots the pc.

If you dont use it as a service, then I don't think this will help.

Thanks for that, I'll give it a try. TBH I'm not sure whether I'm using it as a service.
Is there any need to reboot the pc after 15 times? So far other than this it's worked very well ever since I installed it 2 months ago.

If you install it as a service, it will run in the background as soon as your pc boots up. You dont need to open the sage gui for it to work. You set it up from the start menu - start - programs - sagetv - sagetvservicecontrol

the reboot was put in I think just to clear everything down now and again.

I stopped putting my pc to sleep as I couldn't get it to sleep/wakeup reliably.

Ahh right, well in that case no, I don't use it as a service. The PC is never turned off, and it's always displaying sage in full screen. I have it set to do this at startup. It would be nice to be able to put it into standby overnight and throughout the day though. But then thinking about it, I often log on using placeshifter. I suppose this wouldn't be possible if the server was in standby?

thats right, if its sleeping you have to wait for it to wake itself up before you can connect remotely.

I got to the point where I wrote a script so that my work pc would play a horn sound when the webserver came back up so I knew I could connect. I tried to get it so I could wake it up remotely using wake-on-lan, but all I managed to do was screw my router up with some dodgy firmware.

In the end I gave up and now leave it on all day, but some people have had more luck than I have. Or should I say I think nearly everyone has had more luck than me!

On the otherhand. I've got some Netgear FW that incorporates WOL and it works every time. I bookmarked the URL that includes the LAN IP and MAC address so all I do it point my browser to it, enter my router user/pass and it wakes up my Sage server so I can you webserver/placeshifter

that sounds similar to what I tried. My routers a dg834g v1 and I think the firmware is really designed for the v2.

That part seemed to work but then my msn stopped updating, giving a few wierd side effects.

I eventually got my old firmware back on but it was a pain in the neck.

I think perhaps I'd best worry about getting the tuners working after a wake up first. This sounds like it's going to go waaaayyyyy above my head

Nah, its pretty straightforward (although maybe I lucked out with my PC not having any issues with WOL - it just works) I think I've got a V2 DG834G

If I were you, I would test WinTV after waking, to see if the problem exists outside Sage. If it does, have a trawl of the Hauppauge forums

Cheers

half the excitement is making a complete cock-up of everything and then spending another few days getting it back to where it was.

fortunately I don't have a wife nagging at me each time I do this, which is quite often!

Yeah, good idea. I'll give that a go. Although I've NEVER been able to get any channels using the Hauppauge software. The channel scanning software is a nightmare. I've only once managed to get it to find channels, and then it never saved them.

Thats where I rely on XP's system restore facility, its saved me a few times ! WAF isn't effected if you pick nighttime downtime windows :-) Its all a bit like enterprise computing with stricter SLAs ! hahahaha

No wife here either. But I wasted months of my life pissing about with xorg.conf files, Lircd, and repro's trying to get both LinuxMCE and MythTV to work faultlessly, before accepting that Linux really isn't a reliable option. I finally saw the light and found SageTV, and when it was up and running reliably with ALL it's features within a matter of hours I swore never again to piss about with bits of code unless I REALLY had to

Time to resurrect another old thread.....

I've finally got my Nova-T-500 working on XP with SP3

So I decided to start putting the PC to sleep to save a little energy.

The 2 Nova-HD-S2 cards work fine when the PC wakes up, but the Nova-T-500 gets the old 5 minutes missing from the start of the recording.

I've read all the five minute missing threads but haven't found a way to fix it.

I was wondering if anyone has a way round this. I tried the script thats mentioned in this thread but it doesn't seem to reliably restart the sage service - I'm sure it did when I tried it a couple of years ago.

I was wondering if anyone has the sleep/wake function working properly using the newer nova-T-500 cards or with the Terratec Cinergy 2400i DT. I can pick one up for £56.83 inc delivery from Scan. It may be less hassle to pick up one of these than to try to fix the existing card.

TIA
