I get the green sparkles with the monoprice 3' cable. I also get them with a second generic HDMI cable. LCD is a Samsung LNS4095D. 1080i is fine. I've just set 1080i as default for now.

The monoprice HDMI cable was a great deal. Does anyone know where I could get a good set of component cables for a deal similar to the monoprice HDMI cable? The standard 3' component cable at monoprice was very inexpensive but I don't know about the quality. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try here...

They have excellent cables & very reasonable prices...

Thanks for the suggestion Bruce. But I already bought and received this replacement cable from monoprice. Its a 24AWG cable to replace my 28AWG cable that I was having problems with. The cable is a much thicker better shielded cable. However, I am have the exact same problems. I have sparkles at all resolutions other than 480p or 480i.

This is very dissapointing. I'm using component now. Should we be returning these units as defective?

Hi,

First I would suggest you open a support ticket if you haven't already. I'm working with one of the guys in support to see if we can pinpoint the problem by looking at everything, from cables to TV's to the HD extender itself.

It will take a week or so to sort out with all the holidays coming up (and I was cheap on the shipping ), so if you are ok with using component for now then hang on for a little longer, I'll keep everyone posted in this thread.

I increased the contrast on my video source card and then I noticed the green sparkles occasionally on my analog channels. At first I thought it was noise. When I watched a black and white channel I saw the green sparkles more consistently. It was not on every frame - just occasionally. It seemed to happen more frequently at the beginning of a big scene change.

I have not tried turned down the contrast to see if they go away.

TV: Westinghouse LVM-37w3
Cable: Generic HDMI (for audio & video) that works fine with a SageTV Client at 1080p.

480p fine
720p fine
1080i fine
1080p artifacts

Going with 1080i for now as there isn't any 1080p content available for playback anyway.
The TV is LCD. Could this have anything to do with LCD vs Plasma. Are the people who don't have artifacts using plasma TVs?

Great... Now we have to contend with the folks at CES who are impressed enough to buy Sage + HD extender. They better give us priority!

I've already got an RMA# for mine + cable. Going to send it back in soon and see what they can figure out. Maybe I'll get the 'patch' for the IR issue by then too.

No problems with a Sony KDS60A3000 and a generic cable from Frys. Up to 1080p over HDMI or component without sparkles. Both look the same to me.

I can't use 1080p at all. My dad's at Mitsubishi WD-Y577 lets me set everything up to 1080p (menu and stuff), but as soon as I select ANY video (SD, HD, mpeg2 or 4) I get a blank flickering screen. It works GREAT at 1080i, so I left it there.

(Anyone know what might let me use the 1080p?)

I can't retake the poll, but I added an Onkyo 875 in between my extender and the TV and now I get red sparkles on the screen at 1080p. I run in native mode to let the 875 Reon processor scale the image so it is not a problem for me for 99% of content out there, but if I tried to watch a 1080p native show, it will be a problem.

Hi all ...

So I had my extender sent back to Sage and the guys there really spent a lot of time trying to figure out what is going on.

They were able to reproduce the speckles, but only on an AKAI TV (which is a re-branded Samsung). Now both my TVs are Samsung (both the 65F) series.

Could this be something with Samsung ?

I also found a thread where there were other Samsung LCDs that showed a similar problem (avsforum) and they were able to fix that with changing a setting in the service menu. Now at this stage I don't want to tinkle with my service menu's but I forwarded the info to Sage in case they can do something in the driver they user for the HDMI to tweak the "HDMI 1080p delay" setting (in the Samsung service menu). In the mean time I'm trying to talk to Samsung to see what they have to say about it.

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...22482&page=125

PLEASE DO NOT MESS WITH YOUR SERVICE MENU, IF YOU DO, I DO NOT KNOW YOU !! I'm posting the link for information only

I'm also going to try a PS3 on my TVs and later this week the 2 HD Comcast SB's. If any of those give speckles I'll be on Samsung's case

Maybe we should start another poll to see how many of us that are seeing this have Samsung TVs or re-branded ones ??

In the mean time I'm going to run off component.

Once again, thanks to the support guys at Sage for really putting everything into this and I hope they find a tweak for it. Thanks guys !!

Same problem on my Sony KDS-55A3000. Only 1080p videos are affected. Was this ever fixed by the users who submitted a ticket into Sage? If I don't use HDMI, I lose my audio.

Robert

Edit: 1080p mode works fine. 1080p videos have problems.
