This is just silly

A PCIe 6600GT for 30 bucks AMIR. This card/slot type is ISF certified, right?

That got to be a misprint

Edit to add: AFTER a 40 buck rebate. I don't do mail-in rebates

Sorry I missed that.

I hate Mail In Rebates, just offer your best price up-front. That's why I deal with Newegg 90% of the time

Tigerdirect is also notoriously bad for denying rebates in hopes that you just don't bother fighting them and give up.

I know in the past Tiger has been horrible, but I have heard the tides have changed as far as their rebates are concerned. I will be honest though, I hate MIR too.

That's funny. I've gotten hundreds of dollars back in rebates and only had problem with one. A misprint on the rebate form that one (free) phone call corrected. I can think of nothing wrong with TigerDirect, I get my orders fast sometimes the next day and I only use standard shipping! Their followup on orders is great and on the few occasions I've had to return items they handled the refund or replacement in a timely manner.

BTW: No this is not a paid commercial, I'm just a very happy customer.

BTW2: If you don't want to pay for shipping, check out ZipZoomFly.com There's no shipping on anything with a US destination.

Thanks for the link. I think I am going to get one. I already have a 6600 in another machine and it's a nice card, especially for $30!.

As far as the ISF certification, since they're really all based on the NVidia reference model, I would think that ANY card which uses that reference model is ISF, right? I could be wrong..

How does the 8500 compare to the 7600?

The 8 series pretty much smokes the 6/7 series for video. Especailly in terms of H.264 accelleration (unfortunately that part's not available in XP yet).

Yeah, I was just wondering why you recommend the 8500...what's better about an 8500 vs a 7600. Spec-wise the 7600 looks to be the better performer. Is it the PureVideoHD that makes the 8500 better?

(not arguing, asking as an uninformed consumer)

So the PureVideoHD...is that a Vista thing, or is it a DirectX 10 thing?

The H.264 decoding is supposed to be coming to XP in June I think. Plus if you check AVS Forums, you'll see lots of reports of 8 series cards being significantly better (no dropped frames, no tearing, better scaling, better deinterlacing) despite having the "same" features.

Just that if you're setting up for HD a 7600 is pressed pretty hard, while going to a 8 series may provide better video, especially with lots of action on the screen.
