Contractor dug up my coax... will shows record again?

and it couldn't have happened at a worse time. Sci-Fi is running Airwolf season 3 (i think) the next 2 days. repairman won't be out til Thurs eve. i can't get in remotely to rearrange the schedule since the internet is down.

To the point, since I'll be getting static til the line is fixed, if I just delete the bad recordings w/o setting Watched will Sage get the hint to record them if they are aired again?

At least the power is back on. Wasn't really their fault since a different sub put our lines 6ft into the next lot and didn't tell anyone. "Hey Earl, what are all these funny-colored roots I just dug up?" Underground utils are a good idea... IFF you're the last one to build in the area.

Sorry to hear that; as for the delete as a bad recording option, I do that all the time. TVLand's schedule can be way off for MASH reruns. If the show starts more than 10 minutes late, I just delete without watching as a bad recording. Sage will pick it up the next time.

Yes, if it isn't Watched or marked Don't Like, it can be recorded again. You could also delete them as incorrect recordings.

I'm curious: if anyone is going to dig by us, they must get the utility lines marked first... do you mean the lines were placed and/or recorded incorrectly originally & therefore could not be marked correctly before digging, or do they just not have to have things marked before digging in your area?

yes, the lines were marked over a month ago. i remember seeing the paint in a straight line from the padmount straddling the property line to the meter base.

problem is that the actual route is perpendicular to the pad then turns a right angle into the house.

the cable and phone lines going to the other lots were brightly marked through our yard about 2wks ago. all the taps off the main trunks for cable, telco, and epb for at least 6 houses around us are on our prop line. lucky us eh?

I was out of town the week our power was buried last yr and I'd forgotten the pictures the wife took of the ditch. darn my failing memory, I could have warned them. of course I didn't know til my phone rang about 530pm that anything was going on next door.

You could also delete the capture source, and re-add it when it is back online...

wouldn't be a big deal if i could jump the air-gap in the coax outside the house from here and get into the system remotely.

Not exactly a pretty or long-term solution, but if the distance between the cable tap and your house is < 100 feet, could you grab a premade coax cable from Radio Shack and run it across your lawn?

I think the OP is out of town (not that that is all that clear), and if his wife is anything like my wife, he's probably reluctant to explain to her what a coax cable is, and where you plug it....

yeah, I *was* out of town. got back about 5min after the cable guy got here. he had to do just that, elaw. ran a piece across the yard to their green tap-box. wife couldn't have done it anyway since Comcast has a key lock on them. he said in "4-6 wks" their sub will be out to bury a new line. what a pain.

I had an idea to do it all myself and just splice the orange tube and such. problem is that the coax sticking up from the trench is black and all the cables in their tap-box are orange. means there's a splice or another tap somewhere. tech didn't bother to look for it too hard either.

all is as well as can be expected (considering) now. cable works, tv picks up HD (wish i could transcode realtime ), internet works (didn't lose my IP). whew

DynDNS service works wonders for that. If you set your router up to automatically do the updates to the address all you need is a name.

i have one domain registered and another thru dyndns. i have a script that runs on my n*x router to email me if/when the IP changes so I can manually update redirects not handled thru Dyndns. Last time I tried their linux app I didn't have too much luck with it. dynamic accounts have to be 'touched' once in awhile and about the only time comcast IPs change is if my hardware MAC changes.
