Question Migrating from Windows -> Linux in V9

Hello,

With the move to Schedules Direct and the EOL of Windows Vista (which has run my SageTV server reliably for years) I am planning a migration to Linux.

Are there any special considerations in moving to Linux and keeping the same wiz.bin? Can I just copy it over, it will this break something with the move towards Linux path names?

Also, I suggest this might be a good topic to add to the FAQ. I am happy to write an entry one my migration is done if people can share their experience. The only hits I got on the search function for this were written in like 2006.

Regards,

Joe

I am in the process of doing this and I have my Linux server up and I am transitioning over. The one piece of advice I was given is to use unRAID as your OS and run Sage as a Docker within unRAID.

What tuners do you use as they can be an issue in Linux and can channel changing.

Clients - 2xHD-300, 8xHD-200 Extenders, Client+2xPlaceshifter and a WHS which acts as a backup Sage server

I have two of the original HDHomeruns, so as long as I can connect to the network I am hoping they will work okay.

I am mainly concerned about how to maintain my (large) library of recorded TV.

Thanks,

Joe

It's really not difficult to transition. All you really need is the recordings themselves, and the wiz.bin from your existing server. The recordings don't need to stay in the same folders or have the same paths, as long as they are in a recording or import folder for the new server, they will be rematched up with the information in the wiz.bin file when the new server doesn't it's scans.

And HDHRs are the easiest thing to move since you don't have to worry about drivers or how you are going to change channels on an STB.

Install was easy, configuration problems

Well, I went to do the migration this past week from my Windows Vista based server to a new computer running CentOS 7 and docker. Installing via the docker image from here in the forums was super easy, and soon I was able to connect with a client or an extender.

The first problem was neither of my HDHR could tune channels in linux. The solution is to open source port 5004/udp in the firewall. I had to install tcpdump to figure this out, as the forum post (https://forums.sagetv.com/forums/sho...d.php?p=585781) lists the detection port 65001 but not the video port.

The problem I am still having is that I copied Wiz.bin from my Windows system, but all the recordings are now duplicated (e.g., it shows up at the old path but is not accessible, then is detected as a new recording at the new path).

Any suggestions on how to clear this up?

Regards,

Joe

Found it!

I needed the
advanced_video_file_recovery setting in Sage.properties described here:

The only thing I know of port 5004 being used for is http streaming (tcp). The script you ran has the assumption that you're going to use OpenDCT for everything. If you're not, then that might explain how this slipped through the cracks.

Ahh - that wasn't clear to me when I read it. I am using the originaly released HDhomeruns to tune OTA/ATSC so I have always just accessed them with SageTV natively.
