STV Service Lockups
Hello,
For the past few months I have been having a new problem with the STV service locking up. Once the service memory usage reaches above 1gig I get the "spinning wheel of death" and can't restart the service; the only fix is reboot. Has anyone else experienced this issue or have any suggestions of where I should start to look for troubleshooting? Thanks, Will

What is your heap size set to?

My HEAP size is set to 400 (1024).
The system has 6gigs of RAM installed, however, only 2.49 GB of RAM is available to the operating system. The system is a 32bit OS (Windows 2003) so it should support 4gigs but I had to disable PAE to fix issues with my HVR-2250. The paging file is set to system managed and is currently 2551. To me, the issue sounds like I'm running out of RAM. The SageTV service, with a fresh reboot and all my extenders turned on, uses 700MB of RAM. However, in theory, the paging file should kick in...

IF you are genuinely running all 7 extenders listed in your signature, then that is going to be an issue. There is a finite amount of heap space that each is going to require. This can be minimized by not using fanart, but it's still going to be close to the limit. The alternative you have is to run the linux server, even in VM on your existing machine, which can run in a 64-bit JVM, and can handle all the extenders you would like to throw at it - but with you running 32-bit windows (not sure why, if you've got 6GB of RAM), virtualization may not be the best option either.

Thanks for the advice. I think a modern OS and VM for SageTV is the way to go with my current setup.
