SageTV 6.3.10 Service + HD Media Extender + Live TV = Lockups?

My finacee is ready to kill me.

I set up this "cool" system, and she can't even watch Live TV on our main TV without the video freezing up on her. (BTW, I am using hard-wired switches on a dedicated LAN)

Changing the channel usually fixes it, but she is definitely NOT happy. (She asked, "Can't we just put 'rabbit-ears' back on the TV so I can watch it?")

Is there a solution / patch for these Media Extender freezes/lock-ups?

Thanks ...

AzJazz

This is a known problem with the HD extender that it will lock up for no apparent reason. Usually this only occurs one or twice a day. I have been able to go as long as 6.5 days without seeing it. Support is aware of the issue and is working on it, but is random and difficult to track down. The only thing you can do currently is just restart the HD extender. Using the remote or the standby button is the preferred method. If the HD extender does not respond I believe it will respond after 3 or 4 minutes but not proven yet. You can also use the power switch to restart the HD extender if you have too.

Rats!

I guess I need to buy some rabbit-ears! (I'm not kidding.)

Sigh ... It's going to be a lot harder to convince her when it comes to my next hi-tech purchase ...

I'm still running 6.3.5 (other than the aspect issue I see no reasons to upgrade)....but I have no problems watching Live tv without lockups. My wife and I watched the NCAA tournament thru our HD100 as my tv in my living room is only HD Ready so Sage acts as its HD tuner....The HD100 isn't even on the same switch as my Sage Server. The only lockups I have ever seen was a couple of times it locked up on me when trying to fast forward an HD program. A simple stop and re-start of the video is all it took, but these lockups were in a recorded show.

Paul -

This sounds promising! I guess I need to ask, though - What is the "Aspect issue?"

I'm new to SageTV ...

By any chance are you running SageTV on a Vista box? I had many crashes with the extender with Vista until I moved over to an XP box. Now it's very stable for me.

I thought I was having deja-vu when I read this post. Just this weekend I setup the master suite TV just like the OP.

I added a spare PVR-250 into a XP Sage Server with a PVR-150 and started using the HD-100 exclusively for live TV. I should also mention that I upgraded to 6.3.10 from the previous 6.3 beta at the same time.

I see random lockups with the recorded and live streams too. This did not occur until after the hardware change.

I do not think it is a PCI issue in the server, because both streams record without problems to an iSCSI drive (RAID5 on a linux server). LAN is on the PCIe bus.

Nope. I'm running (and, will continue to run - against M$'s wishes) WinXP SP2.

It won't hold the aspect ratio as fill....it keeps going back to source. I perfer to watch SD shows stretched on my widescreen tv and with 6.3.5 it defaults to the black bars on the sides. That's my only complaint.

Oh and I am also running Windows XP SP2. I just can't make the switch....My first impressions of Vista turned me off.

Paul - OK, you've convinced me ... Is there a way for me to retrograde to 6.3.5 without losing all of my 6.3.10 settings/recording info?

Nope. I'm running 080204 (Which is what I think you meant ).

BTW, the "rabbit-ears" have been reinstalled ... ... and marital bliss has been restored.
