Is there a setting for more than 10 encoders?

I have 12 encoders (recently added the 11th and 12th) and I've noticed the last two are never used for scheduled recordings, even when recordings are skipped due to conflict.

Is there a setting to enable the encoders past 10?

I'm not aware of any hard limit on the number of sources.

Are the sources all the same? Same lineup? Or are they different? If they're different, it's possible the extra sources don't have the channels necessary to avoid the conflict.

For example if you have 2 sources, one OTA, and one cable, if you wanted to record two shows off cable, you'd still have a conflict because the OTA source wouldn't have that channel.

Correct that is why I give the tuner with the less channels (usually OTA) a higher merit.

Just as an FYI, you shouldn't HAVE to do that. Part of the conflict resolution logic is to switch around priorities to find the combination of show->program that reduces the number of conflicts. Priority should really be set by quality (which would still likely put your OTA higher than Cable anyway). Changing tuner priority does not create or solve conflicts.

Well there is another reason I do this because I really do not want to use my cable tuners unless it is totally necessary as I like to have at least one for LiveTV if necessary and Sage really does not give the option to reserve tuners for livetv. I found out that if I do not do that Sage would sometimes use my Cable tuner to tune a channel that is available on my OTA tuner.... this ties up a tuner that can tune 300 channels and does not use a tuner that can only tune 33.

That is not maximizing tuner usage.... At least setting the merit prevents this.

The HDHR DVR is smart enough to do this.
First it looks at Favored Channels then the below... All my OTA enabled channels are Favored.
1. Records HD OTA first
2. Records Cable HD
3.Record OTA SD
4.Records Cable SD

Thanks for all the thoughts, here are the details.

I have 3 channel line ups and the for some reason the two tuners that get left out are all the way to the right in the parallel tuner view (so I think of them as 11 & 12). I have never set any tuner merit.

I have an old Hauppauge dual port PVR that has both tuners on a separate standard definition only lineup of directv channels (so that's 2 SD tuners)

I have 4 HD PVR (2 original and 2 PVR-2) that are on their own channel lineup of all DirecTV HD channels (that's 4 HD tuners)

I have 2 Hauppauge HVR-2255 and a dual port HDHR all on the same OTA channel lineup (that's 6 more tuners).

The two tuners that never get used are one of the HD-PVR and one of the HVR-2255 ports. I've seen cases where the shows that aren't recorded are definitely available on one of these if not both so I assumed that they were somehow omitted from the schedulers consideration.

BTW I'm still using the last released version of Sage on this server, not the open source update.

What server are you running? There is a max encoders on the Linux server with a setting in the properties file.
