lost all video playback and some setup options?

My old sage server finally bit the dust so I went ahead and set up a new one using Win7. Everything was mostly OK for a couple of weeks until tonight. I was watching a movie recorded from digital cable when the HD300 shut off. The server was still running fine so I turned the HD300 back on but I couldn't play back any videos at all. No TV, no recorded DVDs. I shut the server down and restarted it but still no playback. The screen is always black. The playback timer advances about 4 seconds then freezes but nothing ever shows up on the screen. I thought it might have something to do with the video decoder so I went to the setup menu but there is no option to change it anywhere. Then I thought I could go back to the detailed configuration and change the video playback settings. But when I try that it lets me go through the first couple of screens but after the weather setup (I think the next one is supposed to be the channel setup) it just jumps back to the setup menu and I can't change any more settings.

The only thing I can think is that something got corrupted but all I was doing was watching a video and coming so soon after a new install it is worrying. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

That sounds familiar to me. Check these 2 items.

1. Sage Service running on a user account.

2. That account has full access to all recording directories.

not user accounts

this pc has just one administrator account and no other user accounts so I don't think it's that. Besides, it was working fine for a couple of weeks. This is something sudden that happened. But thank you for giving it some thought.

Also, in case it rings a bell for anybody I just tried to play back another video and it actually doesn't stop at 4 seconds the way I had thought. It advances a couple of seconds then pauses then advances then pauses, etc.

Lastly, I just remoted into the server and I can playback videos on the server itself so it would seem to have something to do with the HD300 itself.

Thanks again.

Check for a networking problem... maybe you have an Ethernet switch that is on its way out or something?

Did you try unplugging the HD300 for a few seconds and plugging it back in?

it might have been the network. That was a good suggestion. I did solve the problem but I am not really sure how. I tried unplugging everything multiple times. I tried bypassing the switch that it is usually connected to but that didn't solve the problem. Finally I tried to do a full rest (unplug, power on while pressing back button). That didn't take me to the settings screen but it definitely did something since I had no HDMI output for about 10 seconds then when it came back I was able to play videos again. I think it might have been the network though, just a hunch in case anybody else runs into this.
