Playing .ts Files recorded by HD PVR in Sage
I've recently added a Hauppauge HD PVR to my Sage 6.4.5 setup.
My problem is that I can't play the .ts files in Sage because the Sage MPEG decoder (the only choice present in Sage right now) can't decode the video. I can play the files in MPC-HC just fine, so I know that recording works. This installation was done right after my boot drive died and I rebuilt the system, but before I initially installed the HD PVR, so I've never had a configuration that played .ts file in Sage. Does anybody have suggestions on which decoder I should try to use with Sage? |

The HD-PVR records in H.264 format. Files are stored in a *.TS or *.PS (Transport Stream or Program Stream) container. You need to have an h.264 codec installed to play these files back.
Windows 7 comes with a very good codec and will show up as an option in Sage as "Microsoft Decoder". Windows XP doesn't come with an h.264 codec installed (I don't know about Windows Vista or 8). If you install the Arcsoft software that comes with the HD-PVR, it should install an h.264 codec that will show up in sage as "Arcsoft Decoder" (unless they're giving out a different version of the Arcsoft software with the HD-PVR now). There is also a way to use the codec from MPC-HC (at least it was possible a couple of years ago, the last time I tried it). You had to find a specific DLL file in the MPC-HC directory and register it (by opening a DOS prompt and typing regsrvr32 ...). Then you had to tell Sage to look for all codecs. Some other video / Blu-ray playback software will also install codecs, but they aren't always available for Sage to use.
