Audio weird behavior when playing Sage-recorded files

Maybe I'm just uninformed and the behavior I'm getting is normal, but ....

If I try to play files recorded by Sage (coming in from ATSC via a Hauppauge 950Q), I get weird audio behavior.

In Windows Media Player, I get mixed-up channels (rear instead of front, second language instead of main language, overlays of not-quite-in-sync, or no audio at all), and if I try to view the files through an LG Blu-ray player (using the "my media" function) I get no audio at all. (In contrast, MPEG 2 files I've encoded myself play with no problem in both Windows Media Player and on the LG machine.)

In Sage, I can watch these recordings fine, no audio weirdness.

I've been searching these forums and the web for hints, but so far haven't found much that was helpful.

Am I missing somethng basic?

Is there something I can set that would result in Sage encoding the recordings in a way that WMP or other hardware can understand?

Is there a wrong setting or something corrupt on my system that's leading to this?

Anyplace I should go to find a deeper explanation?

Any tools I can use to verify correct encoding of the Sage recordings?

Not really. If you're pulling in OTA digital it has to be something with the broadcast. All ATSC receiver cards do is take the digital stream being received and pass it along. SageTV doesn't nothing to modify it and simply saves it to an MPEG program stream, otherwise known as an MPG file.

Either there's something wrong with the broadcast or you're getting a bad signal and SageTV is able to work through the errors while the rest are not.
