playing audio book m4b files

Hi,
I set up a bunch of audio books in sage, most in mp3 format work great, but the ones in m4b format do not play or even show up.

M4b is just an mp4 audio that is capable of bookmarks so if you quite the file and come back to it, you start where you left off.

m4b play in videolan, and I am betting if I just change the extension to mp4 or mp3 it mayyyyy work, but I thought some of you experts in the forums could show me how to get sage to play m4bs.

Any thoughts?

Are any of these DRM'd files from Audible or iTunes?

If not, you should be able to change the extension to mp3 and it should play. I'd test one by copying it and then changing the copied files extension to mp3 and see if it will play in SageTV.

Not really. If it doesn't play in SageTV you might try putting in a support request.

One thought on getting it to import into SageTV:
  1. Shut Down SageTV
  2. Open up Sage.properties (back this file up just in case)
  3. Search for this line
    Quote:
    seeker/music_library_import_filename_extensions=.mp3,.wav,.wma,.aac
    & add
    Quote:
    ,.m4b
    to that line
  4. Save Sage.Properties
  5. Restart SageTV
  6. Run a file import and see if the m4b files import.
  7. See if they play
I have no idea if the files will play, but they should at least import after doing this. Let me know if it works.

Thanks!

That edit of the properties made teh m4b play in sage, the bookmark feature doesnt work ( bookmarks is what the b stands for in m4b, it allows you to start the file from where you last left off) but it plays so thats good.

I am going to submit a feature request for them to implement bookmarks, why not? shouldnt be that hard and its an extra feature for sage to brag about.
