Linux server and XP network encoder?

I have a new linux server that i'm playing with. I would like to have my old XP server run as a network encoder for a while as well.

I understand that I need to use UNC paths to pull this off, but I'm not quite sure how to do that.

on the linux server side, I am saving to /var/media/tv, which is a mount of my unraid server share, //tower/tv. Is there any way for the server to read/write from that share directly? If not, can i have a windows XP network encoder record shows in some way that my linux server will understand?

thanks
Matt

Bumping this to see if anyone has any ideas about recording to a UNC path via Sage for Linux.

As far as I know, as long as the user account running SageTV on the XP server has read write access to the directory on the Linux box, there is no reason you couldn't do this.

It's been WAY too long since I setup a Linux server to remember how to set that up, sorry.

Thanks. I obviously just need to play with it and try some things out. Was just hoping to get a clear push one way or another.

If your server was Vista or higher, it would be a much easier. See if this helps:

Also, from what I recall I was able to do this as well but it was 2007 when I initially converted to Linux from Windows.

Please make sure to post your successes!
