Because it still needs a lot of polish. I can get it to work with the NextPVR client, and the MythTV client, but it's just nowhere near as reliable/stable as a SageTV server with Extender clients.

I am not a programmer, and sometimes barely understand a lot of this stuff, but I think that making an android client (.apk) might be possible.

Apparently, sub has released a set of api's to several developers who have created at least 2 clients. Reven's client runs on a a few selected Samsung TV's and bluray players and Martin's client runs on top of xbmc. Both clients show the native NPVR ui.

I have Martin's X-newa running on a Raspberry pi running openelec. I've only had a few minutes to test it out but so far live TV works and I can browse the epg and schedule recordings. It looks almost identical to Npvr running on my desktop.

A self contained apk would IMO be a bad idea. The Android API player isn't good enough for PVR use and I expect many people want more than basic and that's the install mc player, moboplayer etc. I want comskip so xbmc.apk is the best option for me.

Reven's client is custom html5/css, another use fred250 is writing the client for LGs using this UI.

I didn't even know you were a beta tester, if you have comments don't forget to post.

No sorry not now, this UI API requires the next NextPVR, but after release I am going to need help cleaning up remote keys.

I guess if XBMC was that good as a PVR UI threads like this would be dead. When sub added the XBMC support I thought looked great but I quickly lost my love for it. I find the fat client approach with the copy of the database on each client overkill.

I am not as convinced as you that the polish will come. NextPVR, MythTV and MP benefit from regular big and small new feature updates and use wishlists, no doubt SageTV users miss this rush. XBMC PVR devs tend to say "you want it you build it" or ignore the wishlist.

My thoughts exactly on XBMC in general! Great product but a lot of things i personally don't care for. Super talented set of devs, just not for me. Plex on the other hand (while its not a DVR) has been the best alternative I have found thus far. Antenna for Live TV on the Tvs, and then everything else still recorded via SageTV backend, and brought into plex library via the plex/sage code.

I would personally consider Plex the best front-end replacement for SageTV. If one of our extenders were to go out I would probably replace it with a Roku using the Plex app. I've thought about buying a Roku just to test it out.

I personally prefer the Plex interface to SageTV. I think it's cleaner and more straightforward.

Of course the only disadvantage to using Plex is the inability to watch "live" TV. We honestly don't do that much. Wife likes to channel surf too much so we ended up having a cable box in the livingroom along with the extender.

I just noticed Mediaportal 1.5 final was released today which includes full cablecard support (for copy freely content).

http://www.team-mediaportal.com/news...final-released

Has anyone used this? Any thoughts on how this stands up to sagetv? I'm a big user of XBMC and am thinking of dabbling with MP 1.5 to replace my sagetv setup and see how that goes.

The other major deficit of PLEX as a front end is that it (last I checked) doesn't support commercial skipping.

No, as far as I know it doesn't.

I've been thinking about giving Plex a try but that's pretty much a deal breaker for me as far as being a front-end replacement for Sage.

I have heard rumblings they are working on it but its a little bit of a different beast in plex purely based on architecture. the EDL file/chapter support is there, but it is a little wonky from a front end perspective. Especially roku. AFAIK nothing has been officially released or "supported" at this point.

It's pretty slick I am testing it on my test machine.... I love the series plugin (sample below)... also the fact that you can choose how to rename the recorded files... makes it easy to use plex (On Roku).

Are you successfully running this with Cable Card tuners? I can't get the HDHRPrime to find channels when I do, ATSC, QAM, or Cable Card settings in the Media Portal TV Server Setup

I have just tested OTA not my prime yet.

It appears it does not work with Cable card just using the prime for ClearQAM works.

I got this to work following this procedure. I am able to use cable card with Media Portal now.

1.Edit the settings for each CableCARD tuner (select, click "edit"...) - tick "CAM enabled and present for this card" and set "this card can decode..." to 1, then click save. For more information see -->here<--.
2.Go to the "scan" tab in the "general" section of TV Server configuration.
3.Change the SDT/VCT setting to roughly 60 seconds. You may need to increase this time if you find channels are missing or don't have proper names.
Scanning (Adding Channels)
1.Go to the scanning section for one of the CableCARD tuners. Each tuner is listed under the "TV Servers" ==> <your server name> section in the left hand pane of TV Server configuration.
2.Select "digital cable" as the tuning mode.
3.Click "scan for channels".
4.The scan may take up to 3 times as long as you set above in Configuration step 3 (SDT/VCT timeout).

FYI only plex pass members can view that thread. I just hope they actually do something with it.

not a legitimate contender for sagetv replacement.
