Another Stupid SageDCT Question

First let me say that I've been running SageDCT for well over a year.
I have always used a local drive on the server to write the files to.
It's a lifesaver, even though I get an ocassional glitch.

Here's my problem.
In light of what's coming with Comcast (i.e. scrambling local channels) I would like to start recording to my NAS box. (DNS-321)
I can't seem to get it going.

I've been reading, testing, and getting more and more frustrated.
I would like someone (with a similar hardware configuration) to get me started by giving me specific examples of how to configure the recording paths for the server and also SageDCT.

If I could at least know for sure that I've got it configured properly perhaps troubleshooting would be a little easier.

Please help if you can.
Thanx!

i run sage server on a ubuntu vm and run sagedct on an atom windows 7 box since ceton and vmare do not play nice with each other.

i use a mounted nfs folder on windows 7 to have sagedct write to the server.

works like a charm for almost a year now

Thanx for your reply, but your config is kinda foreign to me.
I'm not familiar with (and don't care to be) Ubuntu or VMware.
If I understand, you don't run SageDCT on your Sage server.
It also looks like you don't use a separate NAS box?

Perhaps I should have also mentioned in my original post that the 2 tuners I use are DCR-2650s, and I use the VLC option in SageDCT.

After doing more reading I thought it had something to do with how the VLC option plays with a stand-alone NAS.

However, trying it with and without the option it didn't solve my problem.
Just confused me further.

In fact, the only config that seems to work for me is if I use a local drive for recordings, and I also need to specify that drive letter in the Sage properties file. (forced_video_storage_path_prefix=)

I'm still hoping that there is someone using a config like mine and provide specific examples of how to set up the paths.

I really depend on SageDCT, but I wish it came with an instruction manual with examples of how to set it up.

I guess it's also possible that I have my system so screwed up it would take a rebuild to correct it!

what os are you using?

if you are using windows 7 or vista or perhaps windows server you should be ale to use mklink to make a nas directory look like a local directory on your disk.

My OS is Windows 7.

Thanx for the tip about using the mklink command; I was unfamiliar with that feature.

I tried it and it seemed to allow me to record directly to the NAS.
However, the videos were very choppy.
Simply pulling up a directory thru the connection was also painfully slow.

I do not suspect my NAS to be the problem, as I have been recording my unscrambled channels (via HDHR) directly to NAS without problem for a couple of years.

I guess I'll just stick with my present method of first recording my scrambled channels to a local drive and then batch them over to the NAS in the wee hours.

I think BABGVANT is working on a new SageDCT; perhaps that will be different.

Thanx again for your help.

if you have a gigabit network that should be plenty of bandwidth try a $30 intel pcie ct card in your server.

While I'm waiting on the Intel card, let me ask you another question about SageDCT.

Occasionally, when recording thru SageDCT via my DCR-2650, I will get a recording that plays back in Sage with audio, but no video.

It happens on different channels at different times.

If I play the file in VLC or WMP it works fine.

I even tried playing with different decoders in Sage, but still no video.

Have you ever seen anything like that?

Thanx for your response.
I am aware that BABGVANT is working on a new SageDCT.
I sent him a request but he never responded.
I wish I could test the latest version.

The Intel card is installed, but the results are the same. (i.e. post #5)

I did run a network speed test, and the new card appears to move a lot more data than the built-in NIC.

It's just too bad SAGE is no longer being developed.

I've looked around, but nothing else is quite as functional.
